The water splash caused carnage in each section with a large percentage of the ponies, getting eliminated. This was very sad to watch, what are the course builders trying to achieve by stopping and frightening these good ponies??Disgraceful.

I think as the season goes on the ponies will get used to seeing these splashes and we will see more and more clears. I doubt the course builders are out to eliminate as many ponies as possiable it's just the way things are going at the moment.
If you were there can you remember who qualified in each section.

Sorry to hear the water splash caught so many ponies out. When indoors how are the water splash's made, must they step in or can they jump?

I am not sure what these artificial water splashes are out to prove, particularly when they are put on a surface. I think its fine if they are built in a more natural way, particularly if the water is already available using a stream or lake as it is in some of our qualifiers. The argument about preparing for RIHS does not hold water (excuse the pun). We have been to RI several times and the water splash there, whilst challenging, looks natural and most ponies go through it fairly easily.

I agree with serendipity. Water splashes outdoors are built with much more natural materials and are not made to eliminate the majority of the classes ( did anyone do a clear round???) Not only that but there were falls and riders taken out by the paramedics. I hope everyone is ok today.
We were back again today for the M&M RIHS flat riddens. Results of the B&C class. 1st Wyken Romeo 2nd Tawelfan Red Robin 3rd Robanna Bobby Dazzler. Well done Fiona. Jess Nevin won the smalls with Bengad Rumex. Charlotte Alford 2nd with Waxwing Paintbox.
Champion was Wyken Romeo and Reserve Amy Simcox with her chestnut Section D.

Serendipity and Deejay, quite right, at hickstead they can splash through or jump it if they want to, no problem with that at all, but yesterdays offering was dangerous. There are wasys of using water if ness, but not like that.It was a fab day, a lot of the top ponies out and these classes spoilt the show.So sorry for the organisers who must have been quite embarrassed.I would be very interested in the judges opinions on the classes.

Our pony is a true Mountain and Moorland Hunting Pony, having hunted well all winter on a very wet Forest and come across all sorts of water obstacles, ditches, rivers, streams etc, none of which he ever, ever even hesitates at....but he was having none of that feature yesterday at Hartpury!!
