I saw somebody fall off in the morning class, didn't realise they had let her carry on, i thought once you fell off then you had to leave the ring, you aren't even supposed to remount whilst in the ring are you? How did you do at uk showing huni85?

if she fell of in the morning and came back in a later class thats ok, but if you fall of in a class you are out of that class and that class only.

the hunter class was big, they pulled 10 in and 10 out, she was out on the track and the horse stumbled she went over its head pulled the bridle off and was allowed to carry on! so she carried on and got pulled into the top ten and won! isnt that a rule for one and one for another??

Hi huni85, yes we competed, my daughter was pulled in 1st in the lead rein m&m, but our pony was a fidget, so dropped to second, she also got reserve champion in the members championship. Glad your ponies went well, i always think as long as everybody has ejoyed themselves and come home safe, what more matters. Did nobody complain about this person being allowed to remount? Under BSPS rules you aren't allowed to remount in the ring, wasn't it vicky eggleston judging? she's usually really hot with BSPS rules

yeah she went on to win! was very surprised as there was some very nice hunters in that class and personally didnt think that was. there was a lovely lightweight pulled in 6th and a middleweight pulled in 4th. thought it might of been between them two! think it was emma jones judging...thats what it says on the judges list on the website. has anyone heard of Adrian Bradburn?

not for one minute am i defending ukshowing, but they aren't affiliated to bsps, so don't have to abide by their rules.....if you feel unhappy with the result you should take it up with them..perhaps write in

I've just found out that the horse that won the supreme on saturday night, went to HOYS! how can a local level horse/pony compete against that!! Several of the ponies that go to Uk showing events have qualified for hoys/rihs, or have been there in the past or compete at county level, there is usually a mixture of family type ponies, good quality 'local' ponies and county standard ponies at this type of event. It was Emma Jones judging in the hunter classes, hadn't heard about the girl falling off- bizarre that she was allowed to continue and even go on to win

i'm not slating ukshowing, as they did well to put a good show on and have it run smoothly. i understand that there are a mix of ponies at shows like this. i personaly think if your horse is up to a level like HOYS then why would you be at a show like ukshowing as you would expect to win. arh well.

I've just found out that the horse that won the supreme on saturday night, went to HOYS! how can a local level horse/pony compete against that!! I was second to this horse which is a lovely horse, and the judge said it was close so thats how you compete with it! my horse is a true riding club horse, She has been stood in front of him too in many occasions! He and his owner are fab people and have true competitor spirit! Dont give riding club standards a bad name! We can compete no matter where they have been! Dont drag us down!

i am not giving riding club a bad name! and how am i dragging it down..?
i know from experience that there is a lot of competion at this level and i've had a few years doing this.
if it was close between you n the riding horse then you should up your game and go county with your horse. i'm not out to dish ANYONE, but i am entitled to my opinion!

Too many people thing that riding clubs cant compete with hoys ponies as we dont have the quality at our clubs to do so.
Just because a horse has been to HOYS should not stop it coming to our riding clubs, these horses up the quality the up the revenue meaning better sashes better judges and they also give up and coming riding club kids the chance to see proper riding, turnout, and ring craft.
I dont want to do county as i am not a facey person and really wouldnt be happy a not as good horse beating me cause of whos sat on it! but thanks for the tip!
Your question was how do we compete and i answered you.

martine - i think your horse is very nice. i can see your point of view on letting every one see the turn out and ringcraft invlolved. which is a good eye opener for the younger generation!
i know what you mean about a horse winning about who is sat on it! this is why i do working hunter! as you have to jump clear !
what do you mean your not a 'facey person'?

Most Counties and Quals are facey. im would not be happy wining cause someone thinks i have lessons or bought a horse from a judge, or because ive sat someone on my horse etc.
Our pony was inhand champion and res supreme of day he is a true riding club pony hes only ever been to one county show. He did so well because my mum has worked hard with him to get him looking as good as he does now. he beat many ponies that have been to HOYS many times.
The horse that took supreme has been doing Riding clubs for years his owner is really down to earth and treats riding clubs with respect and doesnt mind being beat. She is a fab example of true riding club spirit. I dont know her just to have a chat in a line up.

i don't know why anyone would feel the need to take a HOYS horse/pony to uk showing- surely they would get no satisfaction at all from winning- knowing they are in a different league, i'm sure they would have been the first to complain if they came 2nd to a pony which hadn't had the same success in the showring.
we've all heard it before- competitors coming out of the ring saying:
"how on earth could that beat my horse, when i've qualified for HOYS" but i agree with martinetaylor02, i think its great for riding club kids to see correct attire, so hopefully they can learn from the proffessionals, and improve for next year!

maybe these people know they only got to horse for one of the reasons ive mentioned above? ie a not genuine reason? and maybe thats why they feel the need to go to riding club and dont mind being stood next to something that hasnt?
Line up in which class on which day?? we had three in the inhand championship on the saturday?

Martine, Well done l totally agree with what you are saying 100%..Just to say we do well at county level but often get beat at local Riding Club level, and l have to say sometimes by better ponies on the day. Mind you l don't think there is any pony out there better than mine, l think mine are the best because, it is strange as it is always my own that l want to bring home again lol !! . I think it is good for the younger members to be able to compete against "seasoned campaigners". I would always happily give advice and help to others if asked. However Martine l think it is a bit of a sweeping statement to say "Most Counties and Quals are facey.". I know none of the judges personally and take my chance like all the others. I am just very competitive...........I certainly wouldn't want to be winning if it was bescause l was friendly with the judge, or was showing an animal that l had bought from them etc. I don't think that that would happen as l tend not to mix with them and like to keep myself to myself apart from other friends at shows simple because of this reason.

i can see where every one is coming from. I've just takent he ride on this year of a worker hunter. we do well at local level and did well at ukshowing. but not every judge will like the same horse.
I go to shows bcoz i love it, and to see the improvement in the horse. its not all about winning!
