Just a general non-horsey winge really.
I'm sick to death of people persuming they can call me Kim instead of Kimberley! People that dont even know me think its ok to just call me Kim. Im sorry if anyone is called Kim but I hate it as my name is not KIM!!
Argggghhh
I correct people when they do it but its rude!
(clearly had a bad day at work and someone has just got on the wrong side of me)

My name is the best one. I am called Nia. It is not short for anything - it is a proper name (Welsh), not a made up one.
In the past, I have had people ask me why I have written not applicable (N/A) instead of my first name..... I now have to emphasise the lines on the "I" to make sure no-one makes that mistake again.
Yesterday I got an email inviting me for an interview. The email was addressed to Mrs Sophie XXXX. Sophie is my middle name. On the application form, it asked you to fill in First Name(s), so I put Nia Sophie. Clearly whoever read the form saw the Nia and assumed I was an idiot, didn't know my own name and ignored it, and just went with Sophie.
To be honest, I have got used to it, and to my name being horribly mangled by anyone who tries to say it. Lots of place ignore the Nia if Sophie is also on the form. The hospital is good for that. I missed an appointment because a nurse called out Sophie with an even more horribly mangled attempt at my maiden name, and I thought it was for another person. It was only when I was the last one left in the waiting room that I realised what had happened and I was NOT impressed.
How rude is it to a) ignore someone's name on a form and b) to NOT listen to them when they pronounce it for you (its like said like near, as in near & far)....
My GPs surgery refuse to believe me everytime I phone. I spell it out with the phonetic alphabet and they ALWAYS say "we can't find you on the system" because they don't blimmin well listen and put Mia or Tia or anything else, other than my actual name. I now refuse to give my name and make them search with my date of birth, as currently I seem to be the only person on the records with that DOB.....
Finally, I once received a letter addressed to Mr Neil XXXX, which really made my day. I had spelt my name over the phone about 87 times...............

My name is Karen, not that hard is it. i don't mind people calling me Kaz if they are my friends but when complete strangers decide to callme Kaz, i'm like who are you??
I had a friend at school who was called Debra, who mum would kill anyone who called her debbie and so debra she was. Imagine my confusion when I for a FB regest for a debbie xxxxx. I didn't have a clue who it was.
I think it's only polite to ask if your name gets shortened to anything. There is a rebecca in work, I call her rebecca but always go to call her becca so I asked if anyone shortens her name and she said yes Becca but everyone in work calls her rebecca and she hates it. lol Always better to ask then. hehe

I called my eldest son Tom, thinking that people wouldn't be able to shorten that, but all the teachers insist on calling him Thomas!!! His name isn't Thomas, it's TOM!!!! I have the same problem. I'm a Jenny but people tend to call me Jennifer because apparently thats what Jenny is short for. I never have been and never will be Jennifer!! My birth certificate states Jenny so that it is!!

I get highly offended when people i dont know call me lou or even worse have heard my family and close friends call me loulabelle and they call me that. sometimes i have been quite rude in explaining im called louise lol as It shocks me sometimes. id never dream of shortening anyones name. i always ask if i meet someone new what they prefer to be called if i know they get called by a few different variations of their name its only curtious.

My name is Sandra. If anyone calls me Sandy they get a very withering glance. A lot of friends also call me Diane, which I don't mind as it is my middle name. This came about because I could not register on a forum as Sandra (must have already gone!) so used Diane.....and it has stuck ;D

At least people attempt to say your first names guys, mine just gets ignored because no-one thinks its a real name! They seem to think I don't know my own name, which REALLY grates

I keep threateneing to change it via deed poll but cant stick to one name i actually like!!......

Nia-you're not alone! I cringe just as soon as anybody even ATTEMPTS to say my name lol. It's Zakiyya (which I detest anyway) and it is said exactly how it is said!! Za-kiy-ya, I have been called every possible alternative you could imagine, Zakira, Shakira, Zakina etc and my flipping GP who I have been with for many many years, still write 'Zakhya' on my prescriptions!! No one really ever attempts to shorten my name, one of my nan's calls me 'Zee' which I don't really mind from her, and a couple of the girls down the yard who could never remember how to say it now permanently refer to me as 'Shakira' but thats more a personal joke and I would fume if anyone else said it.

Mine is an old name, Barbara, but I don't mind being called Barb or Barby but HATE BABS.
So when I had a son, I tried to find an unusual first name as our surname is common, so we called him Django, which is fine, but at the sports club, he was known as Banjo, Tango or Jan. You just cannot win can you? My mom hated his name so she called him Danny!
A relative remonstrated with me once saying it must be a hangup for my son, but I said he is lucky I had him when I was into Django Rheinhart, he could have been born when I loved Jelly Roll Morton!

Showingfanatic - I think your name is lovely, and I really cannot comprehend why people find it so hard to say (nor mine for that matter either!)
Mine is only three, simple letters. Sigh!
