The call was from a genuine source and the information had been passed on by an extremely respected AHS person. Will those inspecting the rings try and run across them to check whether the in hand classes will be safe. The request for people to stay at home was broadcast on Radio 4 at 6pm today.

I had an email yesterday from the lettings officer at the showground to say that the show would be going ahead as normal, they have a plentiful supply of fresh water (I assume that means coming out of the taps....) and that we would need to plan our route to the showground as a couple of roads are currently closed. They seem quite relaxed and happy - if they weren't they wouldn't allow it to go ahead given that they have bookings throughout the year and wouldn't want to wreck their own facilities

'At last' - not everyone chooses not to insure their property or belongings.
A good many of these people may well not be able to get insurance due to their location as the area has always had a history of flooding - I used to live in Cheltenham & know full well the state Gloucester & surrounding areas used to get into over the winter.
So some of the uninsured have wide screen tv's, plasma's etc - perhaps they've managed to get end of season deals etc?? You'll probably find in fact that they're bought on HP - daft but that's how a lot of people in this country live these days.
Or of course they may have had their belongings replaced the once on their insurance hence getting the best they can at the time but are no longer able to get insurance.
Yes we will be paying out for other people's misfortunes by way of our insurance premiums increasing yet again despite never claiming on our household policy but this is supposedly part of being a democratic & caring society.
What do we do - not insure our belongings & hope that we never ever have a fire, flood or other disaster which would wipe out our home & everything we've saved hard for or take the increase in premiums on the chin & accept it??
We've spent a fortune on drainage over the last 7 years of living in our current home but we still have a flood problem on the odd occasion - caused by 2 neighbours further up the hill not dealing with broken drains etc - we were half a paving slab away from water getting into the house a week last Tuesday after about 5 hours of torrential rainfall - I'd be really hacked off as this part of the house has just been renovated & is the only fully decorated & finished room in the house & for a few thousand being spent by a very wealthy farmer & a considerably wealthier house owner with virtually no outgoings we would have to put in a claim with the risk of not getting insurance for flooding again.
I'm glad you all feel able to go to the champs - just spare a thought for the people in the surrounding areas who are living wherever/in whatever they can find & wondering how when they'll get back into their homes, even if they want to & how they'll ever get back to a normal life again.

Facts; The showground is saturated. The showground has lost money The NPS will lose money if the show doesn't go ahead Local competitors still can't get out of thier premises
Suggestion - The NPS at least donate raffle funds and donations to the Red Cross to use in assisting local people. A respected charity with a strong NPS link.
LKove Malvern but this year wish the NPS had followed the AHS last week and taken up the relocation offers

Having just returned from The Royal Welsh which was like Glastonbury on horseback, we even took my traditional stallion down to the ring with plastic bags on his legs I would like to offer a few comments. Firstly despite the conditions which were at times horrendous the spirit and comraderie was fantastic. Ponies did not go foot perfect or like robots they went with their ears pricked and and the riders with a grin on their faces . We breed riding ponies for children to ride and native ponies should be able to cope with adverse conditions and with spriit. Working hunter ponies are what they say, suitable to go across country in winter! However, I would like to say that as Prsident of the NPS I have voiced my concerns regarding the National disaster in the area and it was with this in mind that I suggested we did not stretch the local services more than necessary with fuel and water. I did not mean go the whiole length of your journey overweight merely suggested you fill up outside the area! The Chairman's son works with Thoroughbreds just down the road from the showground and is well aware of the feelings and dangers locally. Mrs Impey is working day and night on all your behalf. As members you have voted the Committee on and as all Trustees know they must go with a majority decision and if the working group elected to go ahead the rest of the Council, whilst not all in agreement will I know like me support the decision. Of course we are all aware of the tragedy of such a disaster and are also concerned about the local loss of business if the show moves. To run a show takes many many months of hard work and to move it in under a week, finding accommodation for Judges, Stewards and everyone else is a tall order. To those who suggessted Towererlands, I have not been there, I am sure the facilities are wonderful but at this time they only had stabling for 600 and we need 800, who would like to chose the ones that would not get stabling? Remember many people have spent the year and hard earned money trying to qualify their ponies for the prestigious championships and taken their annual leave to come to the show A lot of us are farmers still waiting to harvest and make our hay, producers have had a difficult year finding shows for their clients which to many is their shop window for the ponies they breed and sell. We were closed down as dairy farmers in the foot and mouth crisis but didn't begrudge the rest of the country having fun. Just so long as we are aware of others views and hardships and support those less fortunate than ourselves. On a better note the weather warning last night did not bring further misery to the area and they escaped further flooding. We are told the water levels are dropping with a brighter forecast to come for this week we are keeping our fingers crossed. If you are not comfortable about coming to the show that is your descision but to the many many competitors who plan to support the show I am sure you will not be disappointed. The Committee I know will be making as many concessions to make your days enjoyable. Please plan your journeys carefully and take every precaution to bring emergecy supplies and clothing. If conditions in the area change further decisions will be made, just keep watching the weather forecast and see the latest report on the NPS website on Monday. The office is closed at weekends. Good luck, come with good grace, offer help, have fun and may the best pony win. I look forward to seeing you there. Anne Vestey

I would like to add that 'yes' we are farmers, we have bills to pay, need money for the food that goes in our mouths, trying to get the crops in so that the knock on effect will not be too bad, and we are going to have it hard this year, do you think there will be a fund to help all the farmers out there who have also been hit hard by the floods, crop damage??? the weather cannot be controlled, ............ it controls us!
We have only just cut the hay yesterday and praying that it stays fine otherwise the horses here for one, will be going hungry next year as the prices will be through the roof!!

In 2004 we were due to go to Orlando and then the hurricans hit. Devastation was widespread and some people had no power or water. We were very unsure about going but spoke to the compant dealing with the villa hire who told us to come. We flew in on the first day the airport was opened and the damage done was horrendous. The villa we were put in was in an area that had escaped the worst of the weather.
I will never forget the attitude of the locals we spoke to in shops restaurants etc. There were overwhealmingly pleased we had gone. The feeling was that life must go on and a tourist area needs tourists to survive, espically in the bad times. We donated money to the relief agencies who were collecting and bought extra food at the supermarket where they were doing food collections at the exit.
I will be going to Malvern with a similar attitude as are many of my friends. I can't understand the people who are saying they have to go becouse they can't afford to lose the entry and stabling fees. Once they are paid the money is gone and it costs a lot more to actually attend the show. Yes I would be gutted if we couldn't go but it wouldn't be the end of the world and I wouldn't lose any more money by not going.

But i have been to Malvern for the last two days, just got back from this trip and i am sure that a official post will appear at some point. I am finding it difficult to see that people are passing judgement without sometimes knowing the full facts. The show team have and are doing their utmost to make this show the sucsess we all enjoy at our Champs, we are all aware of the difficult situation of the floods, but having stopped in Upton on Severn to buy a drink the local population are getting on with life and probably dont even care what is happening down at Three Counties. Please come to the show, enjoy the moment, be thoughtfull of all the work that has taken place, be polite even if upset and just remember the team has done its best for you the members. Okay here comes my Show report as of 1pm today having just returned from the Showground.
Both North and South Accesses are Open, I came in from Junction 7 and the Show Chairman through Upton - the bridge is open
The Showground is begining to dry up - there is not getting away from the fact that it has been wet - however glorious sunshine and a gentle breeze prevailed. The grass covering is excellent, though there are a few boggy areas.
Most of the temporary stables are up, a little damage to the ground in the process but nothing more than you would expect with the conditions.
Personally I too was a little concerned regarding the sensitivity of running this Show, however I do feel a little better having seen that today on the far end of the showground (not Equine Area!) is a Bl***y great Flea Fair with lots of locals eating ice creams and candy floss obviously enjoying the day.
without doubt it is an improving situation and let's hope for a continuation of the dry weather perhaps by Wednesday we could all be walking around in flip flops and smothered in suncream (not that I suggest we handle ponies in flip flops!!!!!)
NOW GO AND WASH YOUR PONIES AND GET THAT LORRY PACKED! OH AND PRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you're not getting sick of these showground reports but my OH has just driven right round & walked & says everything is as Debbie & Mr. Alder say. The temp. stables are where they usually are just over the little bridge. There are a few boggy bits here & there but with the good forecast they hopefully will have dried up by Wednesday. The parking is a little soft in places but many areas have a gravel base so we should be fine. And yes Debbie he's just been past the Flea Fair. See you all there.

Brown car park is some grass on a hard planings base, hundreds of cars parked on it today for the flea market, no problems. North car park is still damp in places a decision will be make Tuesday morning, if not usable the roads on the show ground will be used for parking. Temp stabling is behind the permanent stabling and into the field beyond ring 1. Hope this answers your questions.
