I see this as waste of time as in most cases like the pba classes at the ri they are full of horses/ponies that have already qualified as sp/shp/hacks/rh
Hopefully the rumoured nursery stakes class is true as its area stepping stone for kids that arnt ready for the open 13hh

It is rumoured that there will be an under and over pba class at hoys next year and they will be amalgamating the pure bred Arab class into one - so stallions, mares and geldings all together rather then split classes to make room for the change. I think its a brilliant idea as although they cater for hacks, riding ponies and intermediates already for part breds, they are all age restricted classes and it means people who currently own a part bred and there child becomes out of class, they can keep hold and do the part breds now instead rather then having to sell and get a bigger one. It also opens up otions for those that are out of the intermediates but the horse doesnt suit as a hack. MnM's seem to becoming more and more popular and i believe that not only is this because they are genuinely harderer and easier ponies to keep, but because a child can do the lead rein through to the first ridden and then opens with a small mnm whereas they would have to sell and move up the heights with a riding pony, hopefully this will eliminate this problem.

I agree with Omelette, what people don't always take into consideration is that once the riders are out of age for these classes these ponies are sold on and particularly the smaller ones are sold again and again. This opens up the chance that more ponies can have 'forever homes' instead of being passed from pillar to post! Think it's a fab idea and will definatley be going to watch the PBA classes next year

I defiantly think that the part bred welsh should be recognised more as the part bred Arabs have classes at the ri and they also have the cherif but the part bred welsh have nothing like this would be lovely to have a class at Hoys for them

I quite agree keeps rider and pony together for longer. I would like to see more shows have these classes.

It seems that GM have put a new class on for PBA 148cm and under including PB welsh. Check AHS website for details.

I have a mare. mum's a D, dad was a un-reg C with no covering note as mum escaped one evening so cannot register her as a full D so I now have hope! There are so few pb welsh classes out there... I'd love to do workers also but being 27 it's impossible as she's not classed as a full bred...

Details are now on HOYS website, awaiting confirmation of the rules and guidelines of the class.

Are we thinking the majority will be plaiteds as there are lots of hairys that are pb welsh! Going to be a tough class to judge with the huge range of ponies that can possibly enter!

Is it deffinatly 148cm's? I have a 153cm SHP who is partbred welsh so a 148cm height limit would rule us out!

So it's another show pony class but without the age limit and entires are allowed!? After reading the guidelines, they all have to be plaited and wear coloured browbands. So this class excludes the wonderful native examples we have of pb welshs or arabs. I can think of 1 particular coloured that I think is a wonderful example of a pb welsh but can't do the class because he's a hairy? Why should they be excluded? Very unfair me thinks!

You cant keep everybody happy , however the fact that there is no age limit is wonderful for owner breeders who are "too old " to show in sp classes but small enough to be able to ride them. I think it's a positive step for GM - Well done

Well Chloe and I are gutted! Finally a class she could have ridden our beloved Snip in post Intermediates. So sad as we lost him earlier in the year, I would have loved to see him back in the ring with Chloe, I miss the plaited classes so much! Ah well - anyone needing an 'older' but still small jockey please get in touch!!

class is definitely for plaited only, which to be fair is traditional for part breds.
full rules can be downloaded from hoys website.

yes adults are allowed to ride ponies, same as cherif. think thats a good thing. lots of adults look fine on ponies. hopefully overall picture would be taken into consideration.

Is there no rider age limit? Like Australia? I judged ponies in Australia ridden by adults I think it is ridiculous if this is the case. No, no age limit apart from rider has to be at least 14 if riding an entire.

I'm an adult who rides a pony PBA stallion and I'm not ridiculous! I thinks it's fantastic!

I decline to get dragged into this one. I just prefer kids on ponies. That is all. I wish you all very good luck with your new class. I wasn't trying to drag you in to anything obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that, I also agree some adults look big on ponies and the overall picture looks wrong but sometimes an adult can look fine on a pony too :-)

I think this is a fab idea as it means my daughter can still ride her first ridden at a high level as this was here last year in first ridden

I was very excited to hear this as I own a pb but mine in a coloured native 50% welsh c and I cant do it. I dont no y they have cut this section out. I do understand uts to encourage children to stay on there ponies but mine and others in the same boat feel this is not fair equifest have the pb classes down to a t. Surely this will encourage adults to take the ride off the children than children stayin on the ponies longer.... I hope for 2015 tgey allow all pbs to enter not just making it another show pony class. Xx
