I HAVE JUST BEEN TO A SHOW AT PATCHETTS, CLASSES WERE CT QUALIFIERS, IT COST £11 TO £12 TO ENTER PER CLASS, AND IF YOU WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO WIN A ROSETTE WHAT DID YOU GET A VERY VERY SMALL 1 TIER ROSETTE. (I GIVE THESE OUT AT MY DOG SHOWS AND ENTRY IS A £1) I SAW VERY YOUNG CHILDREN IN CLASSES COMING 7TH ONWARDS WHO GOT NOTHING CAN THESE SHOW ORGANISERS NOT BUY BETTER ROSETTES AND HAVE SPECIALS FOR THOSES THAT DO NOT GET PLACED BUT HAVE MADE A MASSIVE EFFORT IN TURNOUT AND TRAVELLING TO ATTEND THESE SHOWS. I KNOW THAT THESE ROSETTES ARE NOT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO PURCHASE AND CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT THEY ARE CHARGING THEY COULD IN MY OPINION DO BETTER. I KNOW IT CAN COST ALOT TO PUT A SHOW ON BUT GIVING THESE PIDDLY LITTLE ROSETTES IS AN INSULT. WE AS COMPETITORS MAKE A HUGH EFFORT TO TURNOUT SPENDING A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND EFFORT AND WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT SHOW ORGANISERS APPRECIATE THIS AND SHOW IT BY HAVING DECENT ROSETTES. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I agree, its rather mean and penny pinching not to give out decent rossetts, especially to the kids. That what they do it for in the first place!

well if you feel like that, point it out to the organisers, and say ou are considering not attending again. I think in the current climate, most secretaries will want to keep their competitors..or just dont go...

its the same with late entry fees my dad works shifts so we have to enter some shows late as if he is called into work we cannot go so we often make late entries but this year mum and dad are looking at the cost of late entries and if they are double we dont bother.

As a past member of a committee of our local RC.. we always tried hard to find good Fancy rosettes. Our supplier last year, hacked up the prices, so we went else were. Only for the original supplier to come back with much better prices. I think that show committees/ organizers should barter with rosette makers.. as they also need to stay in business As for charging £11/£12 per class.. I would think willy Turpin had organized the show!!

I know this sounds childish but i do hate tinsey tiny rosettes!!! I went to a few shows last year and you needed a magnifing glass to see them- including Pymoor, god they were small, i know shows are expensive to run most of us are aware, but if it disapoints me how must kiddies feel? I dont mind paying £10 a class for a decent day out with rosettes i can see- oh and a toilet and a decent cup of tea!!!

I think that is dispicable £48.00 per class.how discusting is that.. They don't deserve entries and those that do enter must be happy to fritter their money away.. I am not a meany but l won't be fleeced..

Patchetts is not really a showing type of place, it is geared up for big dressage and SJ competitions where entry fees are very high, but then the clientele are very well off. Be thankful you didn't choose to do the clear round .... it's normally £6 a go

We are not going to Great Yorkshire this year for the same reason. As said previously it works out with diesel about £100 for one class and a crack of dawn start. They are just getting too greedy.
Also Bakewell show must have the worst rosettes ever tiny one tier things

With the Yorkshire you get 2 entry tickets included with a value of £40 i think this is the reason for the extortionate prices, i dont think they take into account that if your exhibiting your time looking around the show is pretty limited!!

Hows this then for EXPENSIVE.....
My 2 boys and I all compete dressage and we all LOVE Dressage to Music. I am a member of British Dressage as compete affiliated. My boys aged 8 and 9, compete unafilliated.
Next month is the annual RC DTM Regional Qualifier. Fo me to enter, costs £10, as my BD membership includes MUSIC.
For my boys to enter this ANNUAL competion, I have to join both of them to BD Music £15 each, then pay the £10 each.
Therefore £50 for 8 minutes of riding.
I am torn between not letting them do it because of the expense, or letting them do it, as they will have fun. They wont win, or qualify, so thats not in the equation at all.
What do you think?

I dont understand why we pay for a HOYS card from our society as well as the annual fees for rider, handler and owner and also have to pay a HOYS levy at every qualifier you enter....classes on average are £45 each to enter......it is madness but what choice do you have if you want to show at the highest level?
Whilst Im on here it is also crazy for big shows not to have stabling or overnight parking so we cant go to midlands onty or derbyshire festival as we travel from the south but would have liked to have gone.....apart from RIHS theres not a lot down here and its a long way to travel, compete and return in a day.

You will find show like bakewell offer prize money so dont feel they need to offer a big rosette, Derbys are 2 Tier and the champions ones bigger but with prize money on offer they dont go ott with rossies, cant wait for our NDHS rossie as by Lionhearts (RL Lady) and we got some very special ones coming in for supreme of show

I am on the committe for www.devonandcornwallhorseandponyassociation.co.uk and we charge 6.00 pre entry and 10.00 on the day. We also give a nice rosette, several champion and res champions and a supreme and res champion as well. We give all children that are not placed a nice highly comended rosette and we also try to have prizes for the children classes if we get sponsors for them, so if you are in our area please have a look at our website we also feel nice rosettes are very important.

look at northern horse.... i appreciate it's a massive show to organise, but simple PUK qualifying classes are £16 and you win a tiny 1 tier rosette. And i didn't even get prize money and there was 12 catalogued entries
Also a local show is charging £8 for unaffiliated classes. You win 25% off entries vouchers if you win or come 2nd. Plus £3 first aid and when someone falls off, they just ring 999

Prize money varies we pay down the line depending on how many are in the class. Sorry Emma not picking on you, but you just happened to mention a topic i was going to bring into the thread! As a sponsor of several shows, it really p's me off that prize money is given per amount entered. I have given the money to cover say to 5th place, why is the money then withheld? At one of the shows, last year, prize money was supposed to be to 6th place, there were 7 catalogue entries. They then only gave out 1st and 2nd prize money. I did kick up a fuss, and insisted that my money be used for the purpose it was intended for. They did eventually ask the others to come and collect theirs.

Our Hunt Show gives lovely 3-tier rosettes down to sixth place, Highly Commendeds and Specials to all in LR, FR and fancy dress, £22 prize-money in ALL classes and Perpetual Trophies to the Show Jumpers. Unfortunately, many of the showing brigade failed to return their cups so last year we only awarded them to the jumpers who always got them back to us in good time.

We were at the Grand Slam a fortnight ago and, for a £12 pre-entry fee, the rosettes are trully stunning - big 3-tiered star centred jobbies and the championship ones (which we were lucky enough to get a reserve) have medals in the middle. Really worth while going to get such nice blingy big rossies.

As a comittee member of a local RC I always make a point of ordering nice rosettes for our shows. Before i took over on comittee our shows we TBH crap!! the rosettes were tiny, horrible coloured things, well, things soon changed!! I get 3 teired jobs, slightly different for each show, and lovely champ & reserve ones as well!! And surprise surprise - class sizes are up every year!!!! we have gone from 2/3 per class to 14/15 average!! we charge £6 pre entry and £8 on the day.

I love a nice rosette and it seems these big county shows that cost a fortune to enter and where getting a place is really something, give out very sad looking bits of ribbon. I help with the Northwest Champs show at Croft Top and the rosettes are lovely, we coo over them when we are arranging them in the baskets ( I know ... am sad lol)
