Quite a few more ponies recalled for measuring

I assume it is the next batch from the same vet - but there is probably a few in there that are recalled for different reasons. Wasn't there about 90 to be recalled in total?

What a shame, I hope that the 14:2sp measures in a smashing pony.

What is a shame? other than it messes up any qualifications, there is absolutely no shame. Ponies/horses simply regroup into another class. So could some please explain to me why this is such a tragic issue?
I do think there is an issue with regard to Annual certificates and that it has to be accepted a pony/horse under the age of 7 is likely to grow at some stage during the year.

I think the shame is because that even though animals may measure in the next height section they may not quite fit. Purely as an example I prefer SRT thst look quite 'horsey' and not an overgrown pony, now you may get a pony 14.2hh that does well but would not do aswell in the SRT. (However, i know that there are some exceptions) Yes i know that rules are rules and if they measure over then so be it but classes do attracta general stamp of animals and overgrown animals do not necessarily fit into the stamp of the next class.

Totally agree with you ernie. There are of course always exceptions, but how many ponies that measure out continue showing in the class above with as much success as they did in their previous class, IMO not many. Also many in the class above are also over height so this makes the problem worse. I agree that ALL ponies/horses should be the correct height for the class but I think this problem of big ponies/horses has been going on for so long that we are a long way from having a fair playing field.

Well looks like Mr. JMB is about to change all of that and sort it out for you.
Anybody campaining an overheight horse or pony is not going to have a great deal of relaxation time and, let's be honest, most of us know the real height of our equines.

Over height horses and ponies have been on the circuit for years and I assume that now the problem is being addressed everyone is very nervous about their own animals But what is the point of having rules about heights if people try to break them and basically cheat!! I do not have any interest in horses/ ponies who are subject to the JMB system so I am trying to put an outsiders view.

i personally am pleased that the possible overheight ponies are being checked. i have views for the people being recalled, those that have bought a pony with certs, as my pony was recalled after buying her with an annual and also having another pony that is almost upto height but whom will always measure in - this pony is towered over by others. if pony is correct height then you have nothing to worry about. sorry but i dont understand what you are saying shsstablemanager?

Simply, I am agreeing with 'proudwilliam' that that those with horses/ponies close to or over the height, must now be feeling hot under the collar!

I would think the next long thread will be when the authorities make unworkable rules about so called legal calmers.!!! That in my opinion will be a nightmare. The BSJA. BD and larger organizations make a c**k up of the rulings so smaller societies have no chance.

Why not just measure ones outside the ring that the steward thinks look on the large side. WOULDN'T AKE THAT LONG THEY COULD EVEN PULL THEM OUT OF THE COLLECTING RING??? Stamp out cheating!!! Hey overheight c's can always be a d!!!!! Overheight connies can do shp or whp!!! Cobs can do maxi cobs !!! Why all this measuring down stuff!! Put your horses and ponies in the right height class!!!! My friend has a small hunter pony and is dwarfed in the 15hh as it is only 14 2 but has done very well and was 5th at the rihs!!

Can you imagine trying to measure a hyped up show pony/horse at ringside? It is bad enough trying to get them to stand still or some of them near a measuring stick at home or on the measuring pad as it is, let alone at a buzzy show! It would be awful ! It would take longer than you can imagine with one of ours!

Well, that is what happens with RP/HP youngstock at the shows which measure youngstock! Funnily enough, those are the ponies which, when mature, become the next generation of BSPS ponies.
And, they have already put up with (as youngsters) the very problems which you are saying they cannot put up with...............!!

Show horses are trained to put up with everything from firing guns to parachutists!!!! They may only pick out two ponies to measure this would not take ages. Come on get real!!!!

Titch, no need to talk to me in that manner, but i am presuming you know my 128 and have put a stick on her then?
No? then try it and see how long it takes! It is the one and only thing she will not tolerate and takes alot of time and patience, each and every time!
How many show horses are actually trained to put up with guns may i ask? The only time most experience parachutists is at showgrounds!

I know this thread is about JMB but... How could you possibly train show horses/ponies fo all eventuality at shows. At Royal Norfolk this year they had a man being shot out of a cannon! Several people were hurt including a friend of mine. Don't reckon many people have got cannons in thier back yard!!?

That is what i am getting at and with an already wound up pony how do people expect to accurately measure the thing as well, accurately? Not every pony has been used to being measured as a baby and certainly not mine as i refuse to show them as babies.

It isn't that much hassle and IMO good for the ponies to have something strange to get used to.

If you lived in Southern Ireland (or, if your children jumped top-class Junior FEI) then your animals would be measured on the showground every time, as a matter of course.

I would like to see the JMB at selected shows measure all competitors in a few classes. If animals measure over let them compete as length of foot, thickness of shoes, excitement etc can give a higher measurement. All animals that measured a certain pecentage over their height in their certificate should then be called for remeasurent.

Now that sounds workable, measure a selection of ponies at shows, if they are, say, 3cms over with shoes and excitment , they have then to go and get officially remeasured, shoes removed on an official pad. Easy. One of the better suggestions on here, Girly.

Good idea in theory until you start looking into the logistics of it........
Who is going to pay for pads to be installed at ?? number of shows? And would the shows be prepared to free up quiet space for this?
It is unlikely that the average bit of 'levelish concrete' would come up to the spec. required and which vets have installed at their premises.
I can forsee the next winge would be "oh but the pad at (such & such a show) isn't as good as the one at (such & such another show) and my pony wasn't measured last week when the pad was better and hers was and thats not fair - wahhhhhhhhhh!!!"

(I don't think an official pad at each show was meant)
How about measure the one that qualifies, and if it doesn't measure, hand the ticket down to the next highest placed that does measure... That would stop these massive 4yr olds coming out once, qualifying for HOYS & then getting hidden away again.

I meant to measure ponies at shows with a pad which already measures youngstock for classes I also don't think that any pony with a valid height certificate should be disbared from the class it is entered in but should be called for remeasurement within a short space of time. I don't see all classes being measured but if selected ones at certain shows were chosen and announced on the day it would b fair for everyone.
