I thoroughly enjoyed reading the article in the Showing World about Australia the quality seems to be superb, I was just wondering what other people thought.

What does everyone think about adults riding show ponies as happens in Australia? I personally don't think it is such a bad thing but some of the pictures I have seen on various websites do show some adults to be very seriously under-horsed.
Another line of conversation, do people think some of the Australian show ponies are too fine and light of bone or is this the quality that has is now missing from some (not all) of our show ponies?

Also from the studs that I have looked at ALL the ponies/horses seem to be able to move beautifully.

The Australian's have imported our best stock and perhaps now people need to bring some back. Love Ardenhall Royal Secret's daughter Keeping Secrets. She's exquisite.

I maybe wrong but I thought Jerome already had Australian stock here, isn't one of his stallions an import?. I've been to the Sydney easter show and it is quite strange to watch the method of judging, in the championship the winners of each of the eligable classes compete and i think i'm right in saying that te pony that was 2nd to the champion is then called back into the ring to compete for the reserve? someone correct me if I'm wrong

I think his beautiful stallion Willowcroft Regal Bronze is an Import, but perhaps he is bringing more over!!! I really don't know anything about Australian Showing, perhaps, that is the case for reserve championship The height ranges and classes are quite strange to follow with Pony Hacks, Galloways and Horse Hacks!!! -

I've just read the link mentioned above and I thoroughly enjoyed the website, well worth looking at thank you! Anyone else, found any other interesting studs? Or any judges out there, who may have judged in Oz and can explain the classes? especially, the show pony/hack classes!

Well, since this thread has started I have spent hours looking (Good job I'm quiet at work) and I really admire their breeding, So please keep posting new websites and we can all keep dreaming........
With regard to the photo's everything seems to have a beautiful coat any ideas on what products to use for a serious Australian shine?

Can it be as simple as "Sun-shine" - the dry hot weather must make a huge difference, but the shine is unbelievable
It would be interesting to know how long it takes them to acclimatize after export to Australia

i agree with lovely i wish our ponies could be rode with adults!! Ponies are so much more fun than horses and if theres no upper age limit on most m&m classes why is there on show ponies, etc?? just a question not an insult or ought

I too would like to see adults being able to ride ponies, they seem to have soooo much more quality than horses in my opinion!

if theres no upper age limit on most m&m classes why is there on show ponies, etc?? just a question not an insult or ought Because M&M ponies have the bone, build and substance to enable them to carry adults. As show ponies are of much finer build they are best suited to lighter children.

All age classes would be worth trying and would stop us having to sell ponies before we've grown out of them or got to old for their classes. It would save us from the distress of finding them new homes when we don't want to part with them. Good idea.

They are childrens riding ponies in theory, it rather takes away the whole point of the class if they are ridden by adults.

Post by ponylover on Nov 2, 2006 21:14:15 GMT
so?? they're ridden by adults in australia?
|
|
|
Post by Bronze on Nov 2, 2006 21:24:46 GMT
Yes, Adults ride ponies in OZ they call them pony hack classes up to 14 hands or anything over 14 hands is known as a galloway and a galloway can be anything from 14 hands - 15 hands (I think) From looking at Oz recently the Galloway class is an extremely strong class with beautiful quality

so they're exactly the same type of pony just different classes for them, so why can't they be introduced over here? it would mean less ponies being sold on every 2 to 3 years after the child is out of class! i'm not getting at you its just an opinion/thought
