I think that we should think about some Adult Pony Classes over here or at least get them discussed, obviously, they contribute very successfully to the Australian Showing scene.

Agree. The classes need a boost so that sounds a good idea. If the ages of riders was scrapped then perhaps some of us would move across from M&M's. Think the showing societies other than BSPS should do more to promote show ponies and their breeding as they have done for the natives.

Absolutely not, just trying to offer some sound advice to somebody who might be thinking about "OZ" as a friend of mine has bought something out there and might be able to point her in the direction of a few well respected studs, I totally, agree with your comments Best shop alone but local knowledge, might just point you in the direction of some unknown studs that might just breed what your looking for!

I heard at hoys about a chesnut hack coming over from Australia, think its a Willowcroft, going to be at Stanley Grange to be produced. Looking on willowcroft website they all look to be big movers. I know so many of our top show ponies get sold to oz I see from another thread on here that the hoys winner show pony just been sold to oz for 30K.
Does anyone else know if any ponies are coming from oz? wonder if they will stand out in the ring as being "different" to our english bred ponies?
What ozzie magazines can you subscribe too apart from horsedeals aus?

I thought it must be true, if you have have been told it arrives soon. How exciting, wonder if its a mare? they will be able to breed from it then.....or people in Australia might want to buy it back if it does well.
Ozzie's love our show ponies like ardenhall royal secret etc etc has anyone brought any 12.2-14.2hh show ponies over to compete in the show ponies (apart from jerome's colt) would love to know if they had. I often wonder how long it takes them to adjust to the weather as they will arrive with full summer coat into our winter.
They will need to get wrapped up to keep warm.

Out of interest, does anyone know how much it costs approx to import a pony from Oz??
I've heard a figure of around £7000 - but don't know on what basis this was made!

$14,500 Australian Dollars to fly them back , Quarantine $2,000.00 Then you add the cost of the horse, quarantine, flight x all that by 17.5% VAT and then x all that by 10% import duty

Divide the dollars by 2.4 and you'll get the picture. Worth the investment if there's nothing better being bred here. Glut of ponies been in Oz at the moment and they are in draught which makes feed expensive so prices aren't bad as long as they don't find out you are shopping for the UK. Their breeders do the same as ours to make their living.

You can pay the quarantine and shipping in Australian Dollars however, the 10% Import Duty and 17.5% VAT Must be paid in sterling.
Just the quarantine and shipping does work out to be about £7,000.00 But then to get the final figure you do have to add all the expenses together then the VAT and Important duty. (including the cost of the horse)

Wow can't wait to see th eone Jerome has will it be doing large or small hacks? bet it is beautiful and they will also produce it so well. I would love them to introduce adult classes over here as agree if the adult is small enough don't see why it would be a problem. Would encourage people to stay in socities longer as you never get to old for them and I reckon it would see the entries go up at shows as well something I think show pony classes are in drastic need off. All round I believe it would be a good move and help the quality and numbers to improve. I for one would definately go back to having a show pony! Nothing beats having one in my opinion x

Really hope some people bring some show ponies over I think would really be good for our classes. Now all I am thinking is I want to book a holiday to Australia just to go and oggle at the studs. Having just read this thread, for what it's worth, I just wanted to say that I agree to , the quality is amazing, but not just at the Willowcroft stud, all the studs seem to have that extra something! Perhaps, it is the sunlight that helps make the ponies look unreal, or perhaps it's just good breeding but whatever, you have to admire their photography - Good Luck to all bringing stuff back I'm sure it can only improve the quality here in Britain (just my opinion) and roll on next season.......

Just a little comment about seeing quality 'back' in the hack classes.
The line ups at HOYS were fabulous, some truly beautiful horses.
There can be no argument that after looking at a couple of the Aussie stud sites they breed some stunning stock but that is their creme de la creme. I really feel that our 'best' is just as good but we maybe lack consistency in our breeding.
Also, I feel that within our societies, panel judges do not sing from the same hymn sheet and should be encouraged to judge more to a standard and type.
JUST MY OPINION!

That's a good point, one that I haven't thought of!, Didn't mean to offend anyone with the word "quality" I too have hacks and that's the last thing I would have wanted to do!
Yes, All the HOYS Hacks were quality!!!!
