I don't know enough about breeding on a big scale.
Is there some reason why British breeders find it difficult to turn out the volume and quality? The impression I get is there is a lack of support somewhere along the line.
It seems to be right across the equestrian board. For example John Hales having to send someone on his behalf to bid on the youngster related to Arko to stop it going abroad.
Mind you, considering the things you read in H & H and other horsey magazines, you would think that our government wants to exterminate all horses and remove the word equestrian from the dictionary!
Sorry to rant!

In my opinion people just can't spend the money that the breeders would like to think that the pony/horse that they have spent many a man hour on is worth, breeding is an expensive game, no with guarantee at the end.
But, the flip side to the coin is if there was more quality around would people pay more?
Perhaps just a result of the modern times?
No I'm not a breeder! just somebody who loves showing and gets excited when they see a nice horse WHOEVER owns it!!!!!

It's a really interesting topic.
Our breeders must be doing something right though as to back up some of the posts at the beginning of this thread ........ the Aussies (whom we are exhalting) have bred a lot of their stuff from our lines.
I am wondering also if there is a different attitude to competition Down Under? Do they moan as much as we do? Are their judges berrated for 'face judging'? Is 'face judging' in some form or other just a fact of showing life the world over?

It's a fact of life the world over. They have "politics" as we do. Competition breeds it

They are a happier, easier going, less critical lot than us. Have better standards of production skills now, take schooling and fitness seriously and far more note of breeding than we do. Must be the sunshine! ;D

I for one don't thing that anyone who wants to try something new is barmy, I think that it can only be good for showing if people are shopping further afield than our shores! Why is it Tinnie that you think they are barmy?

Please can you explain what you mean by your comments..........?

I think the whole "Australian" thing is just a craze, unless you have plenty of money spare its very expensive to fly a horse from Oz-Uk its will cost about another £8000 ontop of the price of the pony. Yes their are beautiful ponies in Australia but unless they are better than whats already in the class in the Uk why go to all that trouble. You would be gutted if it was seen as a top class pony in Australia then to be stood down the line against the English bred ponies here after all that money, time and effort.
Jeromes 14.2hh stallion is beautiful, if he can breed quality show ponies with English breeding and a twist of Ozzie blood then maybe this is where we will find we no longer need to look overseas.
Maybe more stallions should come over, we have so many beautiful mares in the show ring which should breed once retired.

showing - if you were a member then I would give you a karma! Earlier in this thread I was saying similar to you - we do have amazing stock here in the British Isles you only have to watch the classes at RIHS, HOYS etc to see the standards and quality. It is always nice to see a fresh face, especially if it is beautiful and it will always create a stir. We mustn't though lose sight of the fact that our breeders need to be celebrated, after all, the quality exhibited in for eg Australia is in some ways due to our very own successful British bred animals being shipped over there to start with.
By the way, I am not a breeder, just meerly giving an opinion and if anything is inacurate then I apologise!

Hackie 3 - ;D Tinnie looked to be up for fun! Can't see any malice in girls spending money on importing old UK bloodlines to put a bit back into pony stock. If that's what they have in mind let them go ahead. The pound is strong so now's the time to do it! As for the cricket lingo, well spun Tinnie. You had 'em stumped!
