What happens to the equestrain buyers during the winter? I am trying to sell a lovely 4 year old potential lead rein and the most beautiful two horse lorry and can get no enquiries for either of them. Where do people advertise for the best results? Any other tips?

I dont think nothing is selling at the moment because its quite close to christmas, i reckon the market will pick up in the new year.
I have always sold my ponies through horsequest, had loads of phone calls and they have sold.

Thanks for your advice folks. I might keep the pony until the Spring - he is no trouble but I do need to sell the lorry or the bank manager will eat me alive - anyone want a lovely two horse lorry with fantastic living (central heating - just right for the winter shows!!)

i have a lovely kids pony for sale and has been for ages all we get is timewasters ringing up, or people saying that the pony is too young or the price is too much. why do people want safe ponies for nothing, surely your kids health is upmost importance when buying a first pony?

We have a fab 2 horse lorry for sale since BSPS Champs with no joy. Dont think the market is moving much at ALL at the moment. Desperately need to move it on as we need a bigger lorry!! Think the paint work might put people off though:

Sorry, I wasnt advertising my lorry - have been trying for a while to sell it so was just empathising with fetherston's plight. Used the pic to illustrate the possible reason we have been unable to sell - the paint job, its the only explination as it is otherwise a fantastic lorry!
Havent given my phone no or details so not an advert in any way!!

I guess all horsey people like a moan in the winter when mucking out gets a bit tedious. Anyone who keeps horses unless they are very rich will be counting the pennies at least a bit in the winter and trying to sell this and that. I was trying to engender some ideas and encourage some trade to get going!!

Have got to tell you all this one. Still trying to sell lorry. People ring from Essex (i live in Midlands) and want to come and see it. The journey takes them five hours because they confused M40 and M42. They arrive in drive eventually as it is nearly dark. They get out of car and I offer refreshments. Befoer accepting or declining she says Oh! it is a Renault. Yes, I say it was in the advert and you have seen pictures. Oh, no she says I wanted a Leyland Daf and with that they get back into car and leave! I do hope they get off the motorway network in time for Christmas!!

Thanks Dee, did have it on ebay but only had one reply - they did come to see it but announced that their budget was £4000 less than the advertised price! Not good! I do have a couple of other people interested now - and I do have another funny selling story!! Yesterday, someone came to see a pony that I have for sale - Parents (non-horsey) child and yes, youv'e guessed it the dreaded expert. This one however was different! She started by picking out the pony's feet with a brand new hoof pick - she said this was a form of greeting. I was sure I must have misheard. She then took the pony on a headcollar round the field. She kept stopping and starting and making strange noises. Pony is getting more and more mystified but is trying very hard to co-operate. She eventually whips round and roars at him at which he whips round too and peees off down the field. She lets him go. In the meantime mother is telling me that expert charges £75 to view a pony and they have seen dozens. Ah, Light is beginning to dawn. Expert comes back and says pony does not know his 'Buddy Work' and will therefore not be suitable. Buddy work she tells me is essential to a relationship with a horse. So, you scare it to bits and then what I reply sarcastically. Then it respects you she says serously. So there you have it folks, learn some obscure horse whispering technique, find some gullible first time horse buyers and charge them a bomb to visit horses who no matter how nice they are will have absolutely no idea what buddy work is and you may never need to work again!

Hi, I just went into the sporting goods then equestrian then did a search for horse box, horsebox, horse lorry, horselorry etc. I also tried just putting the same search on for all of ebay (type in on home page search) as sometimes people sell them in the wrong category for us to find. Hope you find a good'un!!!

I've got my lorry on ebay as we speak and have not had one single'watcher' and yet I sold my last one the same way very easily. I go back to my original post is it a bad time of year to sell things?

Well maybe you are just selling things that are either not what people are looking for or are overpriced!
I am desperately looking for a horse and have rung about several in the £2500 - £4000 price range - all are either sold or awaiting vetting!!! So that puts your nothing is selling theory out of the window.
Re Ebay - try starting your item at a very low price, believe me it will fly up. Don't tell people the reserve if you have one, just tell them it is low for what they are getting and to make an offer. I have bid on many wagons on ebay up to about £7000 unseen but won't touch one that has that sort of starting price. Also be realistic, if someone comes along with a genuine offer of cash but its a bit less than you wanted take it!! It will only cost you the difference in the long run if you keep a pony or wagon. The other thing to remember is that most people seem to think the same way as you all do and are waiting til spring - so this then means the market is flooded with a whole load of wagons and ponies at the same time - much more choice means less chance of selling!!!!
Hope this helps - don't take offence please.

Thanks for you advice. Sadly, one of my horses completely trashed it yesterday. He got stuck under the partition and had to be cut out. I don't know what happened and he okay now but lorry is at menders and won't be back until New Year! Hey Ho!!

Thanks for good wishes Dizzy , yes, horse is perfectly okay. He wasn't even stressed! I however, am going off my head, so I am going to have a major rant here. Yesterday was a really crap selling day!! People rang about pony for sale. Rang again at 8am to say they would be there at 11am (they were not coming far). By 2pm they had not arrived so I rang them to say I had to go out "Oh! they said we decided it was a bit foggy, we thought you wouldn't expect us". It was foggy at 8am - what changed? Someone who ahd a wanted ad has been emailing about lorry. Finally said they would come next week and look. Now says there will be better ones for less money after Christmas. If they think that why bother to get me emailing pictures and taking measurements and so on. Hell! I am so peeed off that I thnk I put too much Tia Maria in my coffee and I might fall over finishing the mucking out!!

I sympathise with you we also have a lovely lorry for sale and no takers - except people who want to put 17.2hh in it and it does not have the height for that - it takes 3 ponies or 3 normal sized horses and has lovely living - our new lorry is sat in the yard waiting to be converted and we can't do that till this one is sold although think the central heating that we were going to have put in will take a back seat so the new lorry can be done - just put on an extra jumper then.
