fff - he could have meant he didn't like the way the tail was set on, a perfectly legitimate comment. No offence intended to your pony as I haven't seen him or even a photo, just a possible explanation of the judge's comment.

sarahp , you could well be right , but the general attitude towards him was one of ,'im not sure what ive got in front of me ' , it did make me laugh , as it was only a very small show , and the week before he had come 2nd at three counties !!!so you just have to take it on the chin !!!

Must admit I find it difficult looking at miniatures, they do seem to be conformationally different somehow, so maybe if a judge not used to them he was a bit at sea!

Many years go I had a Connemara mare who was let's say quirky to ride, I did working hunter with her and had my show and my tactics down to a t. Went into a class at local level might I add and a gentleman judge who nobody really knew was standing there as he was judging a junior class no need for him to ride the ponies but ... We all did our rounds jumping and show, then he pulled us all in I was second in a big class and was happy with this until.. He told us all to dismount and decided he was going o get on our ponies and ride himself ! He got on the first with only a trilby hat almost had his toes stuck up this ponies nose, I filled with panic! Was he actually goin to get on my quirky mare !,, he came to me .... At this point I was practically having palpitations a the bought of it, I quietly said to the judge she is a bit quirky to ride... He ignored me and got on?.. Grabbed the Weymouth rein of my double bridle very very tightly I saw my mare tense , he took her out and gave her a big kick to which she. Burst into a very quick trot he kicked again and lent back on the rein she burst into canter did a huge buck and proceeded to jump the ropes out if the ring with the judge hanging on for dear life! I am stood in the ring watching this unfold! She bolted straight over to my mum and our box and stopped dead the judge got off walked back into the ring and carried on judging without his trilby!!! Lol I just sloped off back to my mum who was trying to hd back the hysterical laughter!

Riding a fell stallion in a supreme championship the judge asked me "what does it do?" I was so tempted to reply "he sh*gs other black hairy things".

I hope the computer recovers. I think a hairdryer is the recommended treatment?
Luckily I'd just finished my tea before I read that or I would have done the same.

I had the same sort of thing, I was in an M&M workers class, about to do my show and the judge said 'oh is he an Exmoor'. I looked in shock and replied with 'er no he is a new forest', lets just say the judge and steward looked embarrassed and tried to get themselves out of it by saying 'oh its just because he is small', i was thinking 13.2hh is not that small for a new forest!! It was even worse when the steward said 'oh i have new forests at home'!!! Luckily they did place him at the top

A judge to my friend in a FOREIGN BREEDS class:
"Is he a welsh cob?" "No, he's an andalusian...."
A judge to me many years ago in an unaff M&M class with my now retired pony:
"Is he a dales?" "Er, no, he's a welsh cob..."
A judge to me last year...
"He's not really what I'm looking for conformationally, he's a little bit long in the back"
Well, that could have something to do with the fact that HE is actually a SHE and as SHE is the only mare in the class, she may be a tad longer than the geldings?! This was said within earshot of my completely non-horsey boyfriend who now probably thinks that all judges are morons as even he can tell what sex a horse is! lol

a few years ago a rather portly judge came into the ring to judge the BEST CONDITION CLASS , (in hand ) we all duly did our in hand trot up , and when it came to our turn i stood my mare up for him to look at , he had a look around and then had a little ponder and asked if she had had a foal at all , and when i said no he commented that she was a little big in the belly ---- so not being able to help myself and defending my old girl from this large man ----- i replied that i thought that at the age of 27 that things do occasionally graduate south, and looking himstraight in the eye------ , as it was a pot and kettle situation , ---with that he almost fell over backwards , spluttering , omg how old is she -------fortunately we won the class !!!!!

fanfarefan, it remind me of the one time I took our 'slightly' overweight labrador to the vets, like your judge, a portly chap, who proceeded to tell me there was no such thing as 'big boned' , to wich I NEARLY replied 'so you are just plain fat then?', but managed to bite my lip in time........... ;D
