IS it just me but the judges DID not seem to use the range of marks only a diffrence of 1&2 and the same for the top set in the shows -- were they all that good!. Judges MUST use thier rangr of Marks !!

The D your talking about is my good friend Charlene Richardson with Drumacre lloer solo. and yes i too thought it should have been higher. I love Katys B and it was a worthy winner but anthea (the pony) went like a dream and sparkled like a true champion.
Watch this little mare because i really feel next year they will be much more to come ........
Congrats Charlene. We are all Really Proud of you

I agree the D did move the best of the D's but didnt bend, its canter was very fast and unbalanced perhaps the judge took note.
But well done as she looked over the moon.

The best schooled D by far was Pennal Calon Mai being the only animal going in a correct outline throughout and not being hung onto.
Well done Mrs Weller for setting an example to EVERYONE present and to the other jockeys.
The Winning B covered the ground and was a star on the day deserving it's win but would it win at Royal Welsh In Hand? groundforce WWW and Red Ember who have proven themselves in hand also went exceptionally well for far younger riders.

Agree with your comment on Mai also, but she didnt move as well as the other D and has to me always looked exceeding long in the back. Perhaps the judges took that into account also, it is always subjective.
But again beautifully ridden.
Loved the two littles girls they looked like they enjoyed every minute.

I agree with above post that's what judges should be asking themselves, would this pony win at it's breed show.

I think that Solo (the D) went lovely and deserved a higher place. I also liked Pearly king fab action.

I am somewhat surprised by the comment made by Groundforce I cant say that I noticed that all the other D's in there were being hung onto...!

I just wonder tho, from the angle i and few other were in, Charming looked to be a touch lame.... does anyone know if it is or not? would be a shame if it was! ok we had been drinking too so it could have been us swaying haha hope its not tho, was a lovely pony. Thank God it was not just me. I thought I must've been going mad (and I'd not had any alcohol and don't follow m&ms so had no bias)

We also thought that Prince charming was slightly lame behind, he did go beautifully though. Maybe he was being pushed to fast in trot and his backend just could not keep up!

I think Katy Carter rode Pitteck P C a bit too hard, as I noticed she never stop kicking her legs. I think pony should go flowing without asking too much by rider, like Charlene Richardson did with Drumacre Lloer Solo, who went lovely flowing around the arena

We went to watch and had a fab day - Katy did ride very well everyone will agree with that - I loved Solo - would def take him home - and very true to type in movement - and fab canter in my eyes - he would have won it for me - but hey ho After looking at the marks - i am i the only who thought the confirmation was about right (bar 2 or 3) - but the ride judge marks was quite dodgy - example The simpsons ponys show was not good - ? why the ride mark - hence B of B A couple of the ponies that didnt stand still for the show the marks didnt reflect it - Mais show was v correct - but low mark?? I think it was the typical face fits - thats just my opion -

i was there had great seat but also heard all four corners of the arena clap after solos show thought mai went round well but noticed the girth was in the middle of its belly as its so long in the back they said no clapping but one thing made a few laugh was the one clap in a silent arena for j james for once it didnt look huge next to the mai (horse)

You can all only judge the ride really, as you couldnt see the conformation. You need to be up close to see conformation properly.
I have just deleted a post that got very personal about a certain rider, can you please not get too personal. Opinions are fine.

I'm relieved other people thought the B looked unlevel behind, I was beginning to doubt my own eyes. Again it could have been just that it was being pushed out of balance. Loved Lloer Solo and when I looked at his breeding I discovered that I knew his dam. She was a lovely looking mare.

I would also like to add that I think the words producers and professionals should not come in to it anymore. From what I saw nearly every horse was well produced in a professional way so well done everyone. To get your ponies in that condition at that time of year took some doing.

Post by Great Day on Dec 19, 2006 20:33:51 GMT
We had a great day watching well done to everyone who got there. Just to pick up on a few points made. Prince Charming, went fab and he looked it! However, where is its bone and substance and ask yourselfes is this the correct way of going for a NATIVE pony? ?? where was the gallop in his show?? Can you see this pony out on the hills in wales I dont think so! With regards to Mai, I thought she did a fab show next to solo it was one of the best, she is certainly not long in the back, she is beautiful fronted horse, and her body matches that, she is a lovely riding type who covers the ground well. (ps not all ponies have to be extravagent movers like solo and Prince charming, as long as they move correctly, it dosnt make them any less true to type. sometimes people are so blinkered by extravagent movers, its not everything). If you look at the front of the horse and size of her shoulders, where else is there for her saddle to go? If i had to pick a handful of ponies out of that line up to ride, she would be one of my top choices! Solo I thought could have stood champion..........If I could make one negative comment about this pony it would be it tail! lol I would love to see it feathered a bit more and thined out, to balance the overall look. I thought Pearly king was robed! he kept a lovely balanced trot on the go round whilst the Meani pony fell in rushed round on the forhand with its head swinging from side to side. On the whole I think the small breeds where hard done by, west wind did a fab show and should have def featured in the line up!! Ok I best stop now, thats my 2 pennies worth, not that its worth much, its just my opinion, at the end of the day everyone did so well getting there and I hope they enjoyed themselfes as much as I enjoyed watching.

Pennal Calon Mai WAS ROBBED and the marks show that vERY clearly. Mark was only 3 marks higher than the Exmoor for ride?! Begs belief! Could the steward have written down the wrong mark as happened at another big show? Agree jane Weller set example to everyone watching on how to ride a show at Olympia. Pittibeck Prince Charming was rather over-ridden in trot and looked unlevel behind to many people. The Exmoor was a super sort. Looked foot sore though.

Agree. How did Kilmannan Wizard get a higher show mark than Pennal Calon Mai when it anticipated and went off straight into canter and hardly showed any trot at all. had it gone well then no comment need be made but the D mare went beautifully in comparison. Charlene's cob deserved it's place and looked great as well.

I agree that Jane Weller rode well, but I saw quite a lot of ponies that were ridden beautifully so she was not the only one. The D's has a lot more space that the other sections as there were only 5.
If you think that Mai qualified under John James and he bit it, that is food for thought.

Mnay good ponies out there yesterday however Few were ridden "beautifully". Charlene, Jane Weller and Isabel Barr set example. There were many many pairs of set hands, ponies overbitted. Some riders were not using their legs, others were flapping like CanCan dancers and our video shows some were rising so high that you could see the spectators at the other end between them and the saddle. Very good thing the NPS are looking into Teach Ins but it will be interesting to see who attend. Must say Samantha Roberts was one of few who did her pony justice running up. M&M kids should go and watch the Hunter and Hack pro's and really learn how to show.
