All the way to the New Forest to be thwarted by the mud! Despite assurances from Show organisers that the ground was fine, new roadways etc we left home Monday 5pm in the rain,, loaded with Plie and Petticoat for the in hand class on Wednesday. We stayed at local stabling on the Monday evening with a view to leaving the mare and foal at the stables whilst we watched our stallion, Hector, in his last Olympia qualifier this year. On arrival at the show 5 tractors were engaged towing everyone in. Persuasive as ever and despite the best efforts of the parking marshalls. even the determined G.H. was forced to concede defeat to the fact that when 4 x 4s are being towed, a wheelchair doesn't work! and with the forecast grim for tomorrow, we returned to the stables, collected the mare and foal and returned home. Didn't even see Hector, who came 2nd in his section of the qualifier to a Section A. No fault of anyone other than the assurances about the going, but what a waste of time, money and effort. Debbie Barr is kindly bringing Hector home, I'd even paid for a stable for him for Tues, ready to come home after the in hand with the mare and foal on Wednesday. Grrr, but it'll be nice to have Hector home.

Good old Debbie! G.H. I think you should of asked for your own tractor to tow you round the showground for the day or at least one of those gator's. What a nightmare for you glad your home safe and sound.

What a nightmare for you glad your home safe and sound. Iwas dragged in and out like many, and when I got home my husband looked at my lorry and it is a disaster, the water tank is cracked all the wheel covers are ruined and the brakes so clogged that he was suprised we didnt have an accident. Not complaining about NF as they tried the best and were prepared and I did know I would probably be towed. Just a little warning in case you are thinking about it.

I have to say yes the parking etc was a nightmare but i think the new forest have done well in the situatuion they have, the rings were great and even the working in dry. I for one took my hats of today to the organisers and parking people they were doing all they can in a situation like that. As we left new roads were being dug out for tomorrow and there was a huge delivery of hard core stones being made. At least they are trying there best to make sure the show continues, we would all be moaning if it was cancelled, it is our choice to go and to be honest i think everyone must be pretty aware what the conditions are going to be like so if you dont want to be towed dont go!! Thanks to all the tractor men and officials who were so helpful today looking forward to seeing you on thursday fingers crossed it stays dry!!

The course was not big .many people said that it was a cute course and although the showground was cut to shreds the going in the showing ring was fab. But no results I am afraid.

After reading the comments about damage to lorries due to being dragged in and out by tractors I'm not sure whether to go or not, I think we will see what the weather is like this evening and make the decision in the morning. what do you think?

some pics of the mud situation at NF... Firstly to illustrate scale... Then depth of the mud (bear in mind it is going to rain tomorrow) lorries up to their axles and I know of at least half a dozen from overhearing conversations whose horseboxes were damaged I can honestly say it doesnt look as bad as it actually is. I have never seen so much mud in my life, over a foot deep in places

many thanks for posting the pictures. We were meant to be going thursday, travelling down tomorrow. I have now decided I quite like my lorry in one piece and hate having ponies on board being towed. so it will be staying at home for me!!

Was there I take it by the silense that everyone is as GOBSMACKED as us with the judging today!!!!! Couldn't agree more, thought there were more worthy ponies! Aimee's for one! I do have to say that the tractor drivers where really great, so patient and helpful, the rings where fab and the going was great, we had a great day with the hunters 1st & 4th, so I can be honest about the M & M judging and I wasn't impressed at all, was glad we didn't enter!

Thanks for the pictures Stacey. That mud is unbelievable. Yes they say it is going to rain tomorrow, so it will be ten times worse as it was a lovely day today and if the lorry park was like that today with no rain then what is it going to be like after rain?!

I would like to thank the tractor men and marshalls, show ground officials etc today. They were all cheery and helpful. Yes it was muddy but they were doing their best in the conditions. The show ring was fine as were the working in areas.
I have got a photo of a lorry being towed by FOUR tractors. I would love a really flashy lorry but I was very grateful today for the old faithful, not quite so shiny lorry. She did us proud and doesn't even look that muddy!
Was a bit of a nightmare with the Kings Troop, holding classes, yes I know if was for everyones safety though. We had been pulled back out through the mud and back on to hard roadways and then had to wait for them to go and do their display. Has been a long day!

Springbourne Camelot did win the small whp, the course was tiny and much to easy foe a qualifer. I heard that Part Popper won the middles.

the course was tiny for the smalls and some fences were small for the middles but they did go up quite abit for the large as i understand that there was on 7/8 clears,as were alot with poles down

We left at quarter to seven and the large height section workers were still on hold for the Kings Troop with only about 9/10 at most having jumped so far! I had one down in middle height section and thought the course uninspiring and ordinary.
