The glitter question.... yes, in an evening performance i think it makes it more fun getting ready and looks really good, but in the day i personally think it looks tacky

What an interesting thread My real hate over the last few years is adults wearing short jackets who really don't have the figure for it.they often seem to have bright colours with big checks as well these look fine on small neat riders Do folk not look at themselves critically at home!! Think first and foremost look at what suits your shape and work around that. I like to see a little bit of individuality - it does make it easier to judge but in a quiet way. I have started using the magnetic number studs. They are not blingy but just like small buttons . Much better in wet weather and don't move. Would like to see return of brown boots in M&m classes. Do not like yellow/canary jods in any M&m classes- fine for children's show ponies. Defiantly not for adults. Tack - does anyone really notice if its black or brown in the ring if it fits and looks right otherwise.?

regarding hats you should also remove the tails of the bow at the back or sew under so that they are not loose. Me too! mine still has no tail - I've owned it for over 40 years and it only comes out for shows. It's been recovered once - the fit is so good I can't bear to replace it. I have a blue tweed with navy collar and have won many turnout classes with it - it also gets borrowed and is often wearing a red ribbon. I loathe all the bling that has crept in and the rosettes on the browbands that stick out like bug eyes. TBH some riders look like hookers on their way to work. To me the horse is the one on show and the poor judge needs to be able to watch it without being blinded by all the bling reflecting in the sun. Big hate is scrunchies - they are too much and make the riders hair look a mess. A french plait pulled up inside itself - just like you do a forelock, plenty of hairspray and a net. looks so smart

What age does everyone think riders should be to wear long boots? I have a sec c and I'm nearly 14. In a class there was two sec c's with riders on about my age and one had long boots and one had short boots - I personally thought the long boots lookeed better. Most people I have asked think long boots aswell? Thanks On a pony - ALWAYS joddy boots.

Agree with tnavas comment about the sticky out rosettes on browbands, I make browbands and I always do them to sit flat against the bridle, I really don't like to see a small pretty head swamped by a browband that is 'too much'.

Oxblood or brown short boots in small breeds? Would you say brown tack even on a dappled grey?

Not read all of this but I don't like people wearing stocks for in hand and scruffy hair with no hat, think it looks seriously messy!
