Lack of preparation for youngstock classes - if your youngster can't behave and keep all 4 feet on the ground at home, it won't suddenly learn manners in the box on the way to a show!! In fact, it puts everyone else in the ring in danger as well as yourself. Likewise, although it's more common at local shows, teach your youngster how to trot in hand - the amount of ungroomed, dragged in from the field and straight into ring youngsters I've seen who just have no idea what is being asked of them as no-one's bothered to teach them...
I would actually love to see hard riding hats compulsory in youngstock classes as it really worries me to see hooves flailing around the handler's head!!

Hate judges that dont know breeds, i was on a proper conni ebut he was bay and was asked the breed then she went down the entire line asking what breeds the ponies where when anyone with half an idea could tell! Also hate people lunging in the collecting ring, you get in everybodys way and is a health and safety problem. If your horse is naughty get on it and ride it in, that way you get in nobodys way and keep it interested as its not going round in circles for a couple of hours.

Classes that state 'snaffle bridles preferred' (note - 'preferred, not 'only'!!) then the top 5 animals are all in Pelhams / doubles!! Clearly, snaffle bridles are NOT preferred - why bother putting it in the schedule!!

I can't stand these pink or over detailed tweeds whatever happened to the likes of keepers tweed.
Make up on M&Ms they say it's not allowed but it happens. Also M&Ms with scissor shorten manes not pulled.
Non straight long boots. Long boots on 14hh WHP/SHP really annoys me as your not on a horse yet so should wear jodphur boots. Nor are you an adult.
Talking in line.
In hand welsh d's they should be in harness out of the ring if they cannot be controlled they are a health & safety hazard. At one show I went to a welsh d was cm's from kicking someones head and cantering on the spot then tried to mount a welsh a colt youngster. This was not the first time I have seen this kind of behaviour at these kind of shows.

Definately agree with lungeing!!! It doesnt take much for my mad warmblood to explode and someone lunging a very fresh horse or cracking a lunge whip near us usually tips him over the edge. Horse that are not true to type being placed high up. I was at a show recently in the riding horse class and a horse placed above me was told by the judge that it wasnt a riding horse but a hunter but still proceeded to place it second. in the next class which was hunter it went in and won!! My horse also went in the in hand riding horse and was told it was more of a hunter and placed last (he isnt a hunter!!) but at least the judge was consistent and placed him last because of her personal judgement. Again people who assume they are going to win(although its great to see them argue with the judge when you beat them!!)

It depends what else is in the class- judges can only place what is in front of them and if it is a quality animal it may be placed in a class above less quality animals even though it is not true to type for that class. ( especially if the other entries are not quite true to type as well) This often happens at non- county shows and the class can be quite a mixture. \there has to be some responsibilty from the competitor to enter the correct class, as again judges can only judge what is in front of them. Many riding horses can seem like lightweight hunter types and it is often the judges opinion which may differ even between judges.

My only pet hate is rudeness in the go-around. People blocking your horse from the judge on purpose or doing small circles around the judge. Who wants to be pulled in simply because the judge couldn't see anyone else?

I really dont like it in showing when people are placed just because of who they are and not on how they are riding and also some judges comments are a bit harsh, it was my first time doing dressage and got about 45% so we went to the judge to find out and all we got was 'you need to kick your pony up the arse, im sorry but im not massaging people egos' THEN we went for a lesson with him to sort it out and got 'hes a lovely pony but he has been ridden and trained badly' even though i can win many classes in equitation etc and have taught a wooden in the mouth pony to do shoulder in, leg yield and half pass! I probably did take this too much to heart, being 15 - but it did rather upset me...

judges asking me to stand my arab properly, when thats the way they are shown if you know your judging an arab class at least do your revision on it Sorry Solitaire but I cannot stand the modern way of showing arabs, and it is a breed that I love.. or should say loved. Why do people insist on having the nose pointed to the sky? Do you want to ride an animal in that manor? These are working animals, the original Crabbet arabs had wonderful limbs, were deep through the girth and were wonderful to ride. None that I see being shown inhand inspire me to want to sit on them.

He actually was backed late last year and is proving to be a fantastic ridden horse with a natural head carriage, and im hoping to get him out this season. My lad loves the in hand, although me not so much as i cant keep up. Arabs are a fantastic breed and i agree some are posed ridiculous but here is my lad AND THEN RIDDEN

My biggest one ever is children in push chairs in horse walk ways or warm up area's. I some times feel sick thinking what could happen as horses and children are unpredictable.

Agreed precious123, coupled (not horses/shows I know) with parents pushing them out between parked cars onto the road so that the parent can get far enough forward to see if there are cars coming......

I have 3 pure bred arabs..........and am running my own show this year, the British Arabian Summer Gala, along with Natalie Hewitt, and we have banned the horrible 'frozen pose'..which is my biggest pet hate...
flappy legs.....I get the urge to tie them to the girth!
all this bagging and stuff at arab shows..no need.........just gives the breed a worse reputation, and is also banned at my show!
Horses/ponies who have obviously been over ridden/worked/tied in in side reins/draw reins and it's painfully obvious that they find it impossible to go forwards....well gadgets in general, hate them!!!!
being cut up in the ring, then the person who did slows down....what was the point in overtaking me then, numbnuts??
being beaten at a local show by a pony of dubious breeding.....in a pure and part bred arab class!
judges who don't recognise breed/sex, once had one who asked me when I was going to breed from my nice part bred welsh stallion....wouldn't have minded but I was on my oldest pure bred arab mare at the time!!!! know she is a chunky mare, but please!
I could go on!!!!!!!!

Judges ( well - Judge ) who take in your mud caked boots ,sodden jodhs , grass stained jacket , filthy hat and grubby flushed face and ask 'Did you fall off working in ?' Do you reply a) Yes ,but I was hoping you wouldn't notice or b) No , this is my usual standard of turn out .
This was Flee on Friday .I can't enlarge - it's still too raw !

Getting cut up in the ring... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. It is so rude, it generally always happens to me right infront of the judge and then it makes the my pony break. Lunging in the middle of warm up arena's, I dont mind if they find somewehre less obstructive. I also dont like these navy blue tweeds, from a distance they just look like navy jackets.

Well from the other side of the fence, can I say what irritates me as a judge................yes riders cutting other riders up, I do take note of the transgressions and will punish if I have to!
M&M's plaited up..............once sent a huge number out of my ring with instructions to unplait and then come back in if they wanted to show in my ring...............one mother said they had left their groom at home and she couldn't plait tough luck honey read the rules!
Rude small children or rude anyone for thatt matter, if I'm polite to you and show respect then it would be nice to have some respect and good manners back please................
Those who think because they are riding something that has a long line of past champions in its pedigree, then its the ponies/hhorses God given right to always be top of the line...........sorry petal don't wash with me! And yes those judges who are seen hugging parents and arranging the next social engagement just after little Priscilla and Sorrows Dark Secret at Midnight (Not a real combination) have just taken the red ribbon................
All I require in my ring is that horses and riders are neatly and correctly turned out, they ride their horses/ponies with light hands, show control and do not resort to whips, spurs and other 'gadgets' ..................if you can't ride without using hands legs and seat then please do not bother coming in my ring...................I require a horse to stand quietly next to its neighbours in the line up, not try to take the head of the horse next to it, or kick out either.........you can chat to your neighbours in the line up as well, but quietly please, and yes I will tell you what you can do to improve things next time if you ask me, but it will be constructive criticism nothing horrible or nasty.............yes I am a tyrant I suppose but a benevolent one!

Sadly do not judge so much now, am now a long suffering show secretary to my daughter and her bunch of mates who are organising a huge show this summer...............as well as combining general secretarial duties to her showing team, keeping them all on track and leting them know where they are supposed to be on any given weekend for showing! Takes some time does organising 4 riders, 9 horses 2 lorries and a trailer!
But I may well be back as Anrie says when/ if they let me out to play!

We have a horse trailer so obviously although we could reverse the ponies out, the preferred method to unload is side unload. Winds me up when people choose to park within less than 2 meters of you, especially when they go off to enter before you notice/park whilst you are entering and are nowhere to be seen on your return and we end up having to reverse off :/ This is probably me being picky but people could be a tad more considerate about how close they choose to park to others? x

Ooh when your really impressed with your placing and you hear someone who stood last for various wrong legs and so on shouting and ranting "you were robbed"
Once I won a handsome horse class at local and some people walked past me muttering loudly "it's not stunning though is it". Seriously?! Complaining that you didn't win Handsome horse?!
Why do we put ourselves through it every summer haha
