I think it should all be 4 in the hope that the owner/rider can make the correct judgment as to when that pony is ready. They're all different and mature at their own pace. But I don't want to take this thread off topic. Was just pointing out I was exactly inspired to send in further suggestions as I don't see the requirement for it to be in writing?

We had ours in the workers which was a surprise as we did not get a qualifying one so was a nice surprise! lol we got both our Qualifing rossies but we were placed 9th in both worker finals my hubby was not ammused at the two lovely pink frilly rossies with just 9th on them said they could be for anything as no other details on them i have to say that the judges and stewards at the worker rings were fab and i do hope our steward recovered ok Its difficult for us scottish competitiors now to justify the NPS National membership, i have only been a National member for the last 3 seasons, although pleased it included insurance not much else i will get out of it now, i will however def support the Scottish NPS branch as we do attend all their shows.

To respond to the part in bold (quote, above) as one of the WHP judges involved at that time, YES, the gentleman Steward made a good recovery. Thank you for asking; he's the adult son of an old friend and colleague of mine. And thanks to the WHP competitors, because classes were held up, naturally. You were all sensible and patient.

Therefore Forester you could exercise your choice not to show yours until they were older!

I was disappointed there was no catalogue this year but we did get all our finalist rosettes and enjoyed the show as much as we usually do .
I agree peasedown and definitely HOYS should be 5 years plus all the connies we have owned have never fully matured until they are 7/8 you can see how they just fill out naturally .

I just don't think it should be dictated to us when they're ready. Ive shown a 4 year old once in a hoys class in late August and it was a perfect practice for the following year. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't show a 4 year old in these classes. Not many people even knew about the 5 yr old rule for Peasedown!
Agree that connies often take longer. Precisely why I have stated it should be up to the owner/rider. I have a 3 yr old C that has been shown in hand at top level and is very quiet to ride already. I would expect him to be ready for more than my 6 year old fell that has seen almost nothing! Horses for courses....And my 4 year old Connie wasn't even ready to show, so he hasn't been! He's been doing fun stuff.
Showing comes down to walk, trot and canter.....hardly an international dressage test!!!
And if you can do the NPS Open as a 4 yr old then it doesn't make sense you can't do restricted!

I understand the reason for debate on this, but can we do it on another thread please so we don't go totally off topic. I'll move some of the posts later to another thread so that discussion can continue.

I am very impressed with Bulldoggys in depth understanding of EGMs and whats best for the future of the NPS, Are you brighter than the rest of us or do you have greater insider knowledge? Firstly I think your comments about whirling dervishes is a little harsh to the amazingly dedicated band of supporters who have spent a lifetime preserving and running the NPS( for no financial reward) which is our heritage and ensuring the riding pony and mountain and moorland ponies are guaranteed a future as well as being the custodians of their stud book going back 100 years. We are after all a Breed Society not a showing Society. It is no good going on at length about being able to have a discussion at the EGM. This is not possible before the Vote is taken nor will the Proxy Voters be privy to it, we can only vote on the 3 Resolutions, the chat comes later. We have not been told how many Trustees have resigned or why. Do they know something we should? Some say it is 7 Trustees so far who have resigned. Should we be told, if they continue to resign we may be agreeing to be Governed by a couple of Trustees instead of 14.It is also not correct procedure to send Proxy votes to the Office (to be opened by whom?) they should have gone to a Solicitor or Accountant as an independant scrutineer otherwise they will be null and void.

I have to admit I thought it a bit strange to be asked to return the voting for to the society itself

NPS have just released a statement on FB which gives far more details about the EGM. I should imagine it is also on their website!

Dunpony did you get a reply to your questions by e mail to the NPS? It seems to me they only answer when the heat is on and why answer Forum questions and not Members. This still doesn't tell us how many of the remaining Council Members are elected and how many are co opted. Nor why the 7 Council Members resigned and what financial state the NPS is really in. What is happening to the office and the Stud Book we are after all a PIO, (Passport Issuing Organisation) Do Defra know about the changes? As you monitor the Forums perhaps you can come on HG with the answers.

www.nationalponysociety.org.uk/uploads/assets//Office_Files/EGM_Statement.pdfDoesn't really tell you what the mess is, did any of the counscil have a hand in it and would having them in office longer make it any better? As the NPS are a charity it would be interesting to know what the charities commision think and their advice should be given to the members. I did not join this year as we did not compete and the office seemed more interested in promoting balls/social events then their core aim. As a young person I met Glenda Spooner and admire the long term work of the NPS. Perhaps its time to concentrate on the stud books, training of judges to mainatain breed standards and forget about the shows. This year has been bad for even the large show centres and the idea that a reltiively small society should be running be shows with all the risks and overheads is perhaps old fashioned. We love to show the ponies we have bred or own but if there are no knowledgable, commited and unbiasied judges to show under it becomes little more than a sham. I have had an oppotunity to listen to the knowledge from many Judges and I think there should be more effort to pass this on.

Honeypot you have touched on a subject close to my heart judge assessment and training. I wonder if you realize how that process has been devalued since the present chairman has been in charge! If you wish to be a M and M Judge you don't have any connection with any M and M bred society or even ever have to have owned an Native pony. The process isnow pathetic.
oh and I haven't had any answers to my questions but it is a little clearer that there is a lot of sorting out to do and I wish them good luck!!

Visav the NPS EGM in order the members to understand which way to vote in person or by proxy the answers to the pertinent questions need to be given in order for a safe informed can be made. The questions surely are, exactly why have 7 trustees resigned? Is the revenue stream of shows going to be available to the NPS If the shows are to be administered by grandstand media. We need to know also if it is true that the riding pony stud book is to be administered by weatherbys? As the administration of the stud book is part of the charitable aim along with education and welfare and the running of shows, how does losing the shows and the stud book effect our charitable status? Surely we also need to know whether the office building has been sold? This information must be available to us surely before we renew our membership.

I disagree the process is lengthy and costly you access ponies then have two interviews then the potential judge has to visit every breed show get their card signed and probation there are more good unbiased judges out there with a wealth of knowledge in the society and the nps always use there new judges at the champs show, well they have every time I've attended you sure you are not mixing up societies as I've always found the BSPS in the past to use show pony judges in the m&m classes and its only been the last few years they have asked nps judges to go straight onto their BSPS heritage panel

You don't have to have a Native pony back ground and you don't have to probation, You cant learn the way of going of all the M and M breeds by just watching one class or even spending one day at a breed show. A prospective NPS Judge needs a back ground in m and m ponies and needs that year of probationing and that contact with experienced judges in order for their knowledge to be assessed,

I have just finished a full year of probationing, I had to attend a show/sale/training day/ or something similar for each breed that included 4 different things for the welsh, I had to probabtion with judges at shows at each end if the country all at my cost. The assessment day was very tough, we had first class judges assessing us and 12 in hand and 12 ridden natives to assess. Nit everyone got on the panel and it was definitely a testing but fulfilling experience. Please don't undermine this years new judges

still haven't had the answers to my questions but do now know who the seven trustees are who have resigned they are John Harvey-- Pat Renwick--Debbie Spears--Katheryn Bowling --Martin Jones--Nicky Stephens and Steph Fitt there are all good people why have they felt it nesecssary to go. Why have these good people gone? Now only four elected trustees left now WHY.

this is all so very sad, it will be such a sad shame is the NPS is allowed to go down the swanny Over my dear late Mother's grave will the NPS go "down the swanney". For those who are unsure, my late Mum was a Council Member, serving over four decades. In due course she became Chairman. Later, as a 'thank you' for her dedication (for that, really, is what the 'Presidential position' is), she was delighted to be created a President. I am so, so glad that she is not here today to witness the current problems.

What a shame there is so much speculation I thought the nps gave a valid explaination and I thought nicki Stephens stood down as she had finished her term I know she put herself forward again but didn't get enough votes a real shame as she has really campaigned the nps and the fit to compete competition she worked really hard on.i hope she gets back on council.the rest were I thought on sub committees.

All the trustees that felt they had to resign were democratically elected they have had to go for vairious reasons you would be shocked if you knew the truth!! Only four of the remaining Trustees have been elected the others are on due to being M and M rep NPS Scotland and Area Chairman quite a shocking situation!

Some of the Trustees that have resigned might be there but what is vital is that the disscusion takes place before the vote, not after!!. We can't be expected to vote for the very people that have been in charge for the last one to three years and have allowed this situation to arise and expect us to allow them to continue.

It's all very well for members to complain, but as with all similar organisations, there is a paucity of people prepare to serve and ACTUALLY do something once elected! I have no solution to that one, I think it's the way modern society has gone. For those who do serve, there are more brickbats than bouquets. I can't attend the EGM but if half of what i've heard is true, to say 'it will be lively', is an under statement
