Anotherdeal, It was me who told you about the mare who was induced, BUT, she had gone over her expected date by about 10 days and the vet waited until foaling was imminent, i.e. she had waxed up and had started to run mik, so it was thought she would foal within the next 24hrs, if you wish to ring my vet and have a chat with him pm me, I am sure he would be happy to chat to you as everything to do with equine pregnancy and foaling is his speciality.

Having seen this mare yesterday I can definately confirm that she is expecting and elephant! Seing Anotherdeals colt is obviously a baby giraffe she is most definately starting a zoo! (already got two monkey's as well). The strain of lack of sleep is definately showing though, and I wish she would hurry up, otherwise I fear I will have to offer to 'baby sit' while Anotherdeal gets some sleep!! ;D ;D

wish we were all nearer!!! we could have had a rota and make sure anotherdeal gets some kip! It is so hard to stay alert and awake after such a long time but i am sure she would not have it any other way. Whatever happens she has certainly given her all and i admire her tough spirit.xxx

It's a shame there isn't a way to set your camera up to HG! That way you would have thousands of us watching her every second of the day xx Hang on in there anotherdeal xx

I must admit to ringing America one day when I thought someone had a problem with a mare & foal had been speaking to numerous forum members elsewhere and I was the only one close enough to a phone to look up numbers and call!!!!!! It was the middle of the night and actually the mare and foal were ok but it made us all feel better that the call had been made!!!! - Just hoped OH hadnt looked at the phone bill lol!!!!!! xxxxxxxx

thanks beachbum all advice greatly appreciated!! Bonnieheather she is ok however she can only seem to lie down for about five minutes at a time she gets down to the floor and she breathes really short and heavy for a couple of minutes and then gets up do you think its the mass of the babies just putting pressure on when she sits down? So her legs are very very swollen as she obviously cant take the weight off them for any period of time

Poor girly, I bet she's more fed up than you!!! Maybe it's the pressure of the babies on all her other organs :-(

Yes anotherdeal it will be the pressure causing the swellings, if it makes you feel better some mares with singletons also swell towards the end of their pregnancy. If she starts to swell from her brisket and along her under belly toward her udder it might be worth having a chat to your vet but swollen/puffy legs is not uncommon, as is only lying down for short periods. Gentle excercise should help with the swelling. Bless her, i do hope she has two healthy babies that will keep her on her toes!!!

Everything crossed you! My mare foaled in May (just one!) and towards the end had very swollen legs and also odema between her front legs to her teats as well, vet told me this was normal and not to worry and sure enough it went soon after she's had her! Best of luck, if all these crossed fingers work for you your mare and babies will be just fine :-) xx

Sounds as if arranging cover for a night and having a good sleep would be a good idea! We can all only do so much, and you will need your wits about you when she foals.

I keep coming on here every morning to see if there is any news. I reckon when they are born there will be such a communal sigh of relief we'll hear about Hurricane Horse Gossip on the news. You are doing a fantastic job, I really feel for you - sleep deprivation is a form of torture!
