As an exhibitor of Welsh Breeds, as well as other categories of some 50 years standing, please do not tar us all with the same brush. There are many of us Welsh owners and breeders who dislike the behavior of less experienced, knowledgeable and competent people who resort to such tricks.

You cant kick all the C s and D s out just because of the behaviour of the minority, I do hate the shaking bottles, swishing bag things that they do though, its just not on. Each show should stipulate that this is not allowed and make sure that the planning and timetabling is right so that kids and cobs do not meet. er, and hello by the way

I've been following this thread with some interest, although I do not own or show C's & D's. I notice that there has been no mention of why stewards, or judges, come to that, do not put a stop to this ridiculous and dangerous behaviour. Surely they are in the position to seriously warn exhibitors if they think their behaviour is 'unsportsmanlike'. At the big shows there are usually at least two suited chaps in bowler hats, carrying a clip-board and short-wave radio, in and around the collecting ring. They should make it their policy to remove anyone whom they think are putting other people and animals at risk. What with Health & Safety, these days, I would have thought this bad behaviour would be a good example. A very distinguished Judge that I steward for would certainly have me put a stop to it ~ and quite rightly too. It's very prevalent in Arab in-hand showing as well. On the initial trot-up the side of the ring they are whizzed round and around on the spot beforehand, with their 'groom' on the outside of the ring shaking cans and waving plastic bags at them. The poor creatures' eyes are standing on stalks most of the time. How the handlers manage to control them in a silky bit of string I do not know!! It is up to the Breed Societies to encourage their stewards and Judges to put a stop to it once and for all. Rant over!!

Oh heck, those railings will be there and they bounce things along them! God save us all from Welsh breeds! (I'd better get my railings out and practice singing loudly so pony can't hear the noise as I flatten someone) us b showers are far to elegent to chase ponies with bags n whips!!!!!!! too busy trying to control my pony coz scared to bit by cob handlers in the next ring !!!!lol p.s i used to have a ridden d and i think if id chased it with a bag or bottle of pebbles probably wouls have lost o few teeth!!!!

A'S and B's look great plaited. Plenty shown in whp/shp etc. Robert Oliver used to show a fab English Cob.(It was in fact Welsh D). Pretty sure Mr Oliver doesn't get people chasing his with bottle of stones!!

not in the least dawnie we also plait our B's they do hunter pony classes and Dressage and show jump, in fact they compete in all sorts of disciplines, and so they should, the point I was making was that there seemed to be a divided between plaited and none plaited so to plait your welshes you have to have a foot in both camps, bit of a bugger if you forget which class your in and shake your bag in the wrong class

more people with small welshies should to hunter pony breeding classes, as they are being dropped at shows as they arent very well supported!!! so get plaiting!!!!!!! welshies are fab hunter ponies and its another class for you to do!!!!!!

It annoys me. Especially as it says in the wpcs rule book that it is not allowed. I show a section C stallion and he is very very sensitive to noise. I remember a few years ago at our local show which is also affiliated to the wpcs, getting stuck on my stallion in the middle of the D stallions. With all the bag shaking, bucking, kicking out, it wasn't a nice experience for either of us!

welshes you have to have a foot in both camps, bit of a bugger if you forget which class your in and shake your bag in the wrong class have this vision of a very camp person swinging a handbag instead of a cob whip ... sorry I have a very warped sence of humur) One of my D's is a show cob (still has his hairies in piccie below) and the other D will be shown as a middleweight hunter once under saddle... yes thats my other D as a 3 year old in the last picture and my O/H holding him is over 6' tall. All the qualities of a big horse with the character and metabolism of a native..so fun and cheap to keep.

Most lovies who own gucci bags could also afford to own real show horses that don't need winding up by artificial means.
Not sure wether yobs with cobs know what the word PRESENCE means.
Halfpass you get my vote every nite 4 making me giggle!

yob with a cob is a word I myself use to warn son if something is coming up the back of him.
and yob with a cob speaks for its self.
but I wonder what would happen if cob was to kick some-one or other horse while being shutted in this way.
I know it is nice when ones cob wins for people to cheer and shout but until class is judged how about a bit of respect for fellow competitors.
When I am judgeing M & M. I usally send my steward to worn spectators if there is anymore outside assitant that competitor will be sent out of the ring. and if I think there is a few who you know are known for it I mention before I start the class. as a judge you want quite to do your job,. and not have to worry if your competitors are safe. and of course your own safety.
probaly get smited for this . but there is a time and a place for everythink and the showground is not the place.
