I've been reading this thread with interest and I think that showing has probably come to a point that many people are now extremely disillusioned! I wish I had never paid my money to enter now. The results from Ponies UK, Kingsford final were unbelievable. Through mutterings on FB the eventual champion lives within a spitting distance to the judge. The judge rides the said winners ponies out on hacks, clearly visible with 'selfies' on their FB profiles. Plus I do believe that said champion also used to work for the judge and her family. It may have been the best pony? But surely doubt should be cast over how close the relationship is between them?

But it is HOYS who now set the rules for all the qualifiers, so its them that should be cleaning up their act?
But it is the societies that administer and govern the qualifiers
Grandstand Media own the HOYS Q Series they have their own rules which the classes are run under and administer the allocaton of Q etc. They allow accredited societies members to compete in the classes rather than running their own membership and they use the accredited societies judges panels. I think they are as keen as anyone to see fair play and anyone with a complaint or indeed some comments should write to them.

Thank you TSR for letting me know that Grandstand Midea are keen to see fair play I for one will be writing to them, I hope other dishartened competitors will do the same, and I do hope thet will take notice and do something about the complaints, not like the other societies.

This was from a competitor who hadn't been placed 1st.

I watched the HOYS Sec D class at NPS Champs, this was judged so fair, there was only 1 point splitting the 1st and 5th, there were 4 on joint marks, and the 5th was 1 mark behind, the one with the highest ride mark got the ticket, well done to those two judges, sorry I don't know their names, wish every class not just HOYS classes were judged like this

We used to compete in side saddle Association equitation classes - in these classes the judge/steward filled in a short paper slip which was sectioned off into a couple of sections (can't remember exactly) think Turmout, show etc - each area leaving space for a judge to comment
At the end of the class you were given this and we learnt why we didn't win and why we did - it's nothing that would make the class longer in time - but allowed for transparency for decisions and great learning for us the competitor .
I really wish this could be adopted for showing flat classes
Just a thought

Miss Jayne Brace (Bridgend) - definitely facey these days. So disappointing as she was fair once upon a time.
