There are plenty of people competing in qualifiers for Hoys/RI who do not and have not ever qualified for Hoys/RI In years past we have competed at UK Showing against m&m ridden ponies who have in that year already qualified for Olympia/Hoys etc .. it's just something that we accept because the Uk Showing runs OPEN shows without any restriction on the status of the rider/pony and by entering their classes you are accepting UK Showing rules .. if you want it changed, write to the show secretary/committee member Thats how I feel . Many people have HOYs quality ponies but have never tried to qualify and there are also plenty of people who have entered qualifiers who have qualified for HOYS or RI but they are still riding club members and have supported their clubs. To be up against quality ponies and sometimes even be ahead of them in the placings, has helped make this show so popular. The championship shows would not have the same prestige if the competition was not so strong.

I think the people who have qualified for HOYS, RIHS etc and in a lose, lose situation, they get called pot hunters for going to these local champs - even though quite a few are still members of riding clubs, and if they don't go they get called for thinking they are too good and snobish. And at the end of the day you don't need to even be a member of a local riding club to compete at the premier show, you just need to go to one show and qualify, i don't see a problem with them competing at this show.

Alot of very very hard work goes into putting on a show , i honestly think that everyone who is moaning should maybe organise a show / judge themselves !!! Its not as easy as it looks !!

Thank you for your comments good and bad we take your comments seriously and strive to provide you, the competitors with a show that you can all enjoy in the northwest area with the limited facilities that are available to us. We try our best to make everything run smoothly and for everything to work well. We do agree that there are improvements that need to be made and they are ongoing; we would welcome any suggestions in regards of future possible venues adequate to facilitate the operations of UK Showing. Thank you to all competitors for an enjoyable but hard weekend, UK Showing would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all staff and judges for all the hard work, without you the show would not go ahead. Anne & Jeanette

this is the first time i have been to this show, and i must say on the whole found it very enjoyable, with our pony being placed in all his classes.what i did find with this show is that there was a lot of animals there who do b.s.p.s,h.o.y.s,r.i.h.s and n.p.s shows obviously of a very high quality, and i could not understand what they were doing at a riding club championship show i did find this most bizarre because what do you have to gain by competing and winning a riding club pony.the people i am talking about ,no need for names will know who they are,and should feel ashamed by what they are doing.riding club is a starting out point for people new to the sport, events like this are for them to enjoy, win and celebrate and gain experience, not for people who are at the top of the sport to move back down and win all the spoils jut for a days trophy hunting! so come on take heed and give newcomers a chance! Your remarks are unfair, even though you have seen people the circumstances might be different, we have qualified hoys and rihs and we went purely for the reason of a fun weekend.. Alexandra has never ridden off the lead at an event and certainly is not ready for bsps first ridden , she did the capability and the first ridden hunters, and our son Harvey did the lead rein riding club pony, and the alex had qualified in the Lead reain Show hunter but as she does do well and qualified hoys/rihs she gave the ride to her 3 year old brother who has never done a real class before ever only bonny pony, so for us was a great weekend and helped us to get these little jockeys out to learn other things.. had a good weekend - Thanks UK Showing

and the alex had qualified in the Lead reain Show hunter but as she does do well and qualified hoys/rihs she gave the ride to her 3 year old brother who has never done a real class before Just proof that rules were not adhered too, I had qualified in a ridden class, however due to injury I was unable to enter, so asked at the office if I could use another jockey and was told no because the qualifier in ridden classes was based on the horse and the jockey, so how did you manage to get away with it, was it a case of who you are I also agree with the comments about HOYS/RIHS/Olympia ponies/horses coming to riding club shows, I personally do not have a pony of that high standard although I do try my best to turn out as high a standard as possible, I will never be in a position to try and qualify for any of these prestigious shows with my pony, so have no option but to just do riding club shows, it does become very disheartening when you enter a ring and see these high level ponies/horses and knowing that you do not stand a chance, its makes you feel like why waste your money entering

I agree to an extent about the higher quality ponies being in the class. But then there are occasions where they will be beaten and wouldnt you prefer good quality horses/ponies to be in your classes than a bunch of donkeys. No offence meant to anyone there but the better ponies in the classes, The more people will make an effort to keep the high standard. And it makes you feel soo good when you get placed higher than one of these ponies/horses

that is unfair, one rule for all should apply, so sorry you couldnt change your jockey. Quite a few jockeys were changed over the day and saw it numerous times xx

The arguement about HOYS/RIHS quality ponies comes up every single year and nothing ever changes.
Uk Showing why dont you do a poll like you did last year on your web site and ask the competitors who objects to these types of ponies/horses being at UK Showing. You might not like the answer and you might not choose to do anything about it but maybe it would be a good idea to see how many people are actually annoyed by it.
Many years ago I used to compete at a riding club that did not allow members to be affiliated to any society but again its all about money and the RC's want the money just like UK Showing do from the entries.
Im one of the ones that isnt bothered whether they compete there or not, every pony/horse can have a bad day so you never know how the placings are going to go. I know our pony hates Bold and never goes well.

To all those people with complaints about the show, i do wonder if you have ready thru the rules which may be viewed on UK Showing website? there you will find the answers to the points you have addressed ..... by entering a class at a show you are agreeing to the rules and so if you disagree with them, then don't enter! I have re-read the rules today and i cannot find anything which says you cannot swap riders and so Parry Show Team have done nothing wrong The Parry Team is a self-organised home-produced family team who put a lot of time and effort into their children's ponies resulting in much success on the lead rein ... their children are only very small and need the experience of riding club to start them off in FYFR and for their very young son, lead rein ... they are to be admired and aspired to, not slagged off cos they are doing better than others! if you have a gripe, take it to the committee who i am sure will listen and learn from what you have to say

well suggesting the Parry's received preferencial treatment ("is it who you are") is slaggin off in my book ...
.... and if you have several issues (and have paid £50 x 7 = £350) to officially complain why do you bother going/showing?

Welldone everyone ;D! I really injoyed this show even thought my result of sunday wasn't that good :(I thougth it was very well organised and 'YES' they could improve on somestuff but that will come in time I like to compete agianst ponys/horses that have qualifed or have been to hoys/RIHS etc... Gives you some competition My mum was in the gallery watching my evening class and she overheard someone talking about my pony , They said 'well look that pony that was 6th is a producers pony and hasent been placed well so it shows that not all producers win' But my pony is'nt produced hes produced by myself a 13 yearold girl and my mother who loves there ponys to bits ! ;D

(a) what the heck does selling them a browband got to do with it?! i supplied to most of the competitors showing last weekend (b) we arrived late at the show and the parking gentleman said i would never get my 3.5tonne on and off the muddy field and he said 'follow me i know where there's a space' and he parked me in the only other space available which happened to be right outside the entrance to the indoor school entrance which did make for a bit of a hike to the grass rings but came in handhy for the eve performance BUT lots of people who didn't getr thru to the eve leftg around 4.30pm leaving plenty of room for other wagons to park near to the indoor school so why didn't you shift your vehicle up there for the evening? ... why not look for the good in people instead of the negative? i really despise being accused of something i haven't done or have no authority over ... you really do not know me so please do not insult me by accusing me of things without knowing the full facts AND for your information yes, i have a permanent and serious illness and have applied for a disability badge altho until it arrives i will continue to be parked where the showgroundsmen put me (another UK Showing rule you need to read!)

FOR GOODNESS SAKE I cannot believe what I read on this forum. Would you 'guests' speak to fellow competitiors like this in person?! If the answer is no then you need to think carefully before being so nasty on this or any forum. I do not know Bigmama before you assume I do and as we have a cob I do not own a fancy browband! However, I am appalled by that last nasty comment and she is quite right - if you wanted to move your wagon closer in the evening there was nothing stopping you. This thread says everything to me about what is wrong with showing. We cannot be happy for our fellow competitors. If we win (as we did on saturday) we run the risk of nasty comments from others. If we lose we feel we have the right to make those nasty comments. We are selling our horse this week to have a break from this mad world that takes up all our spare time and whenever I feel I might cry at the thought of letting our lovely boy go I read something on this forum which makes me think I'm so glad to be getting out. Showing is subjective. It entirely depends on the opinion of the judge on the day. If you don't like it take up dressage or jumping We who own horses are very privileged, and to be able to afford to compete them as well makes us even more so. Please try and keep it in perspective and enjoy it - isn't that what it's suppose to be about after all

yes we did park right near the main arena, but when we arrived at 6.30am on the sat morning for a 8am class there wasnt many waggons there and as ours is a large 7.5 ton they parked them all on the car park. till it was full to save the ground, so was just where the attendant parked us.
Yes we do buy our browbands off bigmama but so did half of uk showing population. we didnt do it last year because of the bit*hiness associated and it is ignorant people like yourselves that are spoiling the whole event , it is meant to be fun for everyone. Try not to spoil it xx

The way I read it the suggestion was that the reason Bigmama jumped so strongly to Parry Show Team's defence could have been because they were a valued customer of hers? Not that I know either party so wouldn't have a clue if there's any truth in that.

can i just say i am 13 years old and when i have and oppinion to state i do it by not covering up who i am and appearing as a guest ! everyones entitled to their own oppinons but come-on do it with maturity and pride and addmit who you really are !! showing is not about who you buy you browband off its about the quality of you pony and not the quality of you browband !!!
although bigmamas browbands are lovely wish m&m could wear them !
I kno for a fact that the parry show team have lovely ponies this is hence why they got their fab placings ! I also know that they are not rosette chasers they went out to have a fun and enjoyable weekend so why are horrible people trying to ruin this for them ? x

well said laura. It's really pathetic of somebody to say such a thing, parry show team may buy their browbands and show gear off bigmama, but the reason bigmama stuck up for them was probably more along the lines of them being friends, and who would stand back and watch their friends be critisised without jumping in to defend them?? i sure wouldn't let t go without a comment or 2 back in their deffence.
Well done parry show team, your ponies looked fab, you deserved all the success xx
