Freya I have given you a karma. You and I sit on different sides of the fence with our opinions, but it is so nice to see an opinion from someone who is against hunting giving a sensible argument, that is not personal attack on those whose opinion you do not agree with. Nor is it a load of emotive codswallop (for want of a better description).

Thankyou-i shall give one back in appreciation In responce to the comment of animal slaughter and the suggestion that it may be cruel but yet we eat meat. I, personally, do not have an issue with animal slaughter in this country because the animals are slaughtered under strict regulated conditions. In countries such as mexico-horse slaughter in particular is horrendous (i have watched under cover vids). Now that is what you call barbaric and cruel. ......and then there is the illegal trade in fur, again sickeneing. .....and no i do not eat kentucky for vids of cruelty that i have seen to the chickens Sometimes i guess we need to put it all into proportion.

well i m probably going to get slaughtered for this but! we have two foxes that must live quite near to us and they never come near mares not foals they clear up the mess after mares giving birth and never come near to the house, some years ago we bought two aylesbury ducks for my little boy we had had themfor about a year, always putting them in at night, but we were late coming home one night and the fox had killed the 2,our little mare had stood over the 1 so the fox only had taken 1 ,but it was our fault,i know they can be a pes for everyone but to be killed like they are who is most cruelest.....sorry

BAN THE BAN!! as a farmer myself, i have see half a lamb, just a leg, just a head etc in our fields, and several times i have found a few blood - covered headless chickens outside the coop, with only blood and feathers left. good thing my grandad is a good shot with the gun or we would be overrun with foxes! plus, we have a great local hunt ( - GO DART VALE AND SOUTH POOL HUNT!!) which has had to do drag hunting like all the other hunts and so now the nearly-fox-empty fields we had several years back are filled with foxes! all the anti's in the towns know nothing about rural culture - soon we'll be banned from riding in case our horse trods on a rabbit!! and i know people say that the foxes need to steal our defenceless animals for food, but when they kill chickens they usually leave their bodies behind! they are just killing them for no reason, unlike hunting where we have a reason! FIGHT PREJUDICE - FIGHT THE BAN!!!!

if people think fox hunting is cruel then they should look at the organised foul shooting too. the birds are reared in captivity with all there food provided then released with no natural instincts on how to survive for people to go out and shoot for pleasure. they stand no chance. and its not even done to control popultions.

I think the ban should be binned and the government should spend their time worrying about REAL issues, like the state this country is in, like no jobs for us british as they keep letting more people in to what is a tiny island, they should leave us horsey folk alone for a change and do their bloomin jobs!!

This is an old thread but ...........
I totally disagree with Fox Hunting. And the ban should be kept.
I do not however disagree with the reason behind it... Foxes are pests to farmers as mice are pests to householders, and as they may need to be culled, I personally do not think it should be done by a pack of hounds and some people on horseback charging over the countryside.
There are better ways of handling this, one is to go out (i think this is done in Ireland) huntsmen on foot, with dogs to flush them out.. they are then shot twice - once with a dart gun that anaesthetises them, then again with a rifle cleanly through the head. It does not suffer, it knows nothing, and it isnt left for dead, or have it's tail cut off... (or even ripped to pieces by hounds) Ok so it may not be much "fun" but atleast it gets the job done.
Foxes like badgers/wolves/squirrels/dogs/cats/deer/chickens etc etc all have the right to live. It is not upto us how they die.
As for foxes living in the city.. if the council build new roads and connect towns and villiages, the wild animals (badgers included) have to source their food elsewhere.. their natural habitat is taken from them, they NEED to adapt also.

Incidently - for those that enjoy the buzz of the hunt, and gallops... would you ever consider going on Mock or Drag hunts?

Somehow I can't see tranquilizing drugs being readily available on general supply, and I doubt there are many vets that would want to come out and assist with this one !

like i said.... i think it's practised in Ireland.. they may have different policies there... infact, any games person with a gun licence could probably apply for a dart gun.. I dont know, im no expert... I have no desire to kill God's creatures for fun.

Foxes are vermin. And the hunt provides a service, which extends far beyond the killing of foxes. Why should some PC tree hugger in westminster meddle in something that has worked perfectly well for centuries?

i would go mock hunting i enjoy the odd gallop while loaded up on port!! so makes no difference to me if its a real hunt or not!! im too out of it (due to nerves and mental horse) on anything alcoholic to know whats going on!! lol...sorry just trying to lighten the mood! ;D this debate will go on for years and as we know there isnt a solution to please everyone or atleast i cant see that there is, it is a tradition thats gone on hundreds of years and i dont see who has the right to stop it..they'll have to ban fishing too the way things are going, what about pheasant/rabbit shooting? some of those people are a crap shot and animals left injured rather than dead...

Why should some PC tree hugger in westminster meddle in something that has worked perfectly well for centuries? In my family we say the only good fox is a dead fox. Since the ban we just see a lot of roadkill foxes. Dead bodies all over the place. I'm sure their death was a lot slower and more painful than death by dog.

i have to agree with that...on the way to solihull a few weeks ago at 3am we saw a lovely looking fox stood at the edge of the road...was quite nice to see...however on the way home there was a dead one lying at the side of the road, not sure if the same one, but either way it suffered immense pain.

If I had a problem with rats or mice, I'd get a cat! or a Terrier! Or phone the hunt and ask if the terrierman could come.

when we first moved here we had a terrible problem with rats, we got the local game keeper in, with half a dozen terriers they soon made short work of the rats, we had them back about six weeks later and they cleared the rest.

Incidently - for those that enjoy the buzz of the hunt, and gallops... would you ever consider going on Mock or Drag hunts? Nope - I enjoy watching the hounds work, being asked to help out/assist whip in, to me some of the more sedate days when you spend hours around a covert are still just as good a days hunting I really dont like the trail days they put on for show when hundreds turn up mounted, ie boxing day. Great social fun but not hunting!

Well it is my opinion that hunting is outdated and should be stopped. It HAS been stopped, and the ban should stay. This is only my opinion to which I am entitled, as you are to yours.
No way would I partake in a "sport" that includes seeing other animals being hunted til it can run no more and the only way out is to be ripped apart by blood thirsty hounds and people.

And? were they vixens with babies? do they even know it? if they were then it wasnt just 2 was it? 2 may have been killed but as many as 6 more could have starved to death....
What's the difference of a pet dog starving to death as 6 fox cubs?
