I cant see how he can go for Judge if he put Solo through last year? both are very different types of cobs. I think solo is great, very trye to type, moves straight and is a great example of a cob. I watched the HOYS class at Puk South and Solo was the only cob I would have taken home. Thats funny Judge has beaten Solo twice this year already, won 2 Olympias, 2nd at Windsor, qualified for HOYs, RIHS, Silver Medal, Barnett Balance all on the first attempt, so you never know. (Sorry Charlene - I love Solo too she is a lovely mare, its a pity our boy is a gelding they would of have lovely children ) I think you are all putting these ponies down by putting them up as you are worried about them and may try and influence RS, well I think you are all way off track as he has a lot more integrity than you give him credit for. I think it will be a great Olympia qualifier with some fantastic animals there, so everyone should go for it and have a good time, at the end of the day that is what it is all about. You should be in marketing!! what a perfect place to list all of judges winnings so far!!!! I wonder why. For me Solo is a much more ture to type cob, that looks and goes like a cob, any good judge can see that. you were very quick to say that Judge has beaten solo and list his winnings, but judge is certainly not unbeatable, and solo has beaten him.

Yep that is a fact Solo has beaten him and so have others, he not unbeatable, so I have to agree, but I love my cob and reserve the right to promote him like you are promoting Solo, who deservedly got best of bred at Olympia (another bit of marketing for you). and by the way I do work in marketing thanks for the compliment

oh gosh this has all got bit*hey already!!! At the end of the day nothing is unbeatable but it doesnt stop both of them being fantastic ponies and fantastic types. Maybe different but doesn't mean one is better than the other all personal preference i guess and i wld give me right arm (well almost!! ) to have either on my yard. Realisitcally i am sure both will end up with a deserved ticket at the end of the season so where or when they qualify is pretty imaterial. I have to say as well why shldnt Judges results be posted they are fantastic and i am sure anybody with similair ones wld be just as proud and why not!!!! they also have the right to post theres to if they want to. Most importantly however the qualifier sounds like it is going to be a great event, only wish i was going to see all these wonderful ponies perform. Good luck to everyone, hope you all enjoy it and lets wait and see what lucky person gets the ticket x

Ok then can you tell me what you mean by true to type? And what are you suggesting my pony 'the judge' is then.
Seeing as he has won under numerous welsh judges, are you saying that they are all blind?
I love Solo as well as Judge and would happily take home either, but for you to come on here publicly and say that she goes more like a cob and looks more like a cob is very bitter of you.
They are both good examples of their breed but are as you say different. I'm sorry if you think I'm 'bigging him up' but I am not, I am just defending his reputation which you are obviously trying to slander.
To be honest he doesn't need a lot of defending, I think his show record speaks for itself.

It is a fact that within the welsh breeds there exist different "types" all of whom fit the prescribed breed standard. It is surely a matter then for the judge to decide which of the "types" he or she prefers. That is not saying that the others are incorrect but certainly at the wpcs shows we know which judges will prefer our "type" above another. Showing is subjective and if all judges liked the same there would only ever be one pony on the circuit. Whilst different types I actually love both these ponies who are both excellent examples of their breed, however like everyone i do have a favourite but seeing as I am not judging them that doesnt matter. Good luck to all competitors smile and have a good day and I hope that the weather is kind to you.

Can we try and keep some where near the topic please. I do realize that threads go off topic and it is only natural for it to do so, but lets not get into another this is better than that slanging match or I will start removing posts.Which to be honest I should not have to do.

I am sure that Judge is not unbeatable however, he is very close to it! He is a very good example of a welsh cob and lovely moving pony and Aimee rides him really well!! Dont know horse or rider personally!

Well the Olympia season has well and truly arrived Do people come on here to purposely put ponies down that they think the judge may like, in the hope that he/she will be put off by the "gossip" ?? I don't know!!!!!!!!!!!! Having seen Mr Sutcliffe judge on a number of occasions, I have no doubt he will pick as his champion what he wants and not what people think he should pick. Hopefully the weather will be kind to all that attend this weekend. Lets hope that as the season goes on, whether it's HOYS or Olympia qualifiers, the competitors aren't berated either before or after the classes.

I really liked Solo at Olympia - when she walked into the ring i thought YES that is a real cob that covers the ground with a natural stride and a big bodied mare - fab and IMO she should have been champion I have seen '' The judge'' before 2006 and thought yes - ok but i eat my words this season he has really filled out and is a v smart cob - and i am a strong believer in cobs take their time to come into their own and i do think he is v well produced - and is a credit to his owners I hope everyone good luck i will be there - and i do hope ''the best man/lady wins on the day'' Good luck all

Mary & Aimee, Did Judge go under R Sutcliffe at Midland Counties last year when he qualified Solo, i wasnt there i love Judge but just wondered if he prefered Solo last year why would he change his mind this year unless Judge did not go well as i find R Sutcliffe to be consistant

So do you know if Solo is even going, this could all be a load of speculation, and then you will all look silly. Does anyone know?

I was only saying IMO - as in reply to other comments on said ponies - we will be there and you never know with qualifiers who or what will get it - it may be a pony that hasnt been mentioned or thought of - i just hope its a worthy winner and pilot

Rusell Sutclife is very fair and knowledgeable about all breeds, he does not go for one breed, he judges each and every pony on their indivdual merit. He is not at all facey, he judges, ponies not people. It is a shame there are not lots more 'Russells' out there. I am sure whatever he qualifies will be correct, and a good example of its breed..
and no I do not have a ridden pony entered at this show...

Dont foget all the ponies have to cope with the conditions, some dont like slippy mud, even the best cannot plan for the conditions.

Sorry do not agree that R Sutcliffe is always fair i he seems pretty consistant i have watched his judging many times and IMO he does favour certain people look at PUK last year he judged a C/D class and the D he brought up to 2nd went badly and looked very common but was with top producer the pony pulled second went much better yet was dropped he judged that class very strangley my friend was in that class and i watched all of it.
