I know Dazzler was at Davina's and I'm struggling to remember when (I have pics of him up in the loft somewhere) and I'm sure it was when Peter was riding him I want to say 1981/82 ish but it could of been a year or so earlier. As Davina tended to ride him out herself as RPJ recalls he could be a tad spooky and on occasion I rode him out saying a lot of prayers. So it could of been during the period of time that Peter was dallying with jumping. But as everyone says he was a special pony.

SC if I remember Peter last rode him in 1981 and Helen Baker then took over the ride. Trouble is the memory lets me down!!!!!!!! He was a real prince of a pony

We had him for seasons 1983 and 1984!! The Gilbert Scotts brought him out first as a stallion then he was gelded and shown as a 14.2, then Veronica White then Mrs Burt!! Perhaps Davina had him before a large show, she certainly didn't have him for long!! I think Fairy Gold went to the Crafton Stud in Wales and is responsible for many of their champion ponies!!!

Ok, this is driving me mad, I remember Davina had Ashwell Hi Society a large Hack and was not happy as she was 2nd to Royal Return (I think they perhaps thought they had it 'in the bag'), now he was champion in 1980 so it must of been around then. I went to two Wembley Horse od the Year Shows with Davina but am stuck as to which one it was Dazzler went to. I can still see him in my mind being ridden in Davina's wood bark manage which was quite a new surface to have way back then!

I started working for Veronica in May 1982 and Dazzle was there then.He then went to Mrs Burt but I think he may have been on loan to her because he then came back I suppose must have been 1985. I went to HOYS with him twice and if I remember right he was 7th and 11th both times ridden by Helen Baker. When Helen was out of ponies he was sold but I cant remember who to.I know he died quite young about 14 I think

Ah, ok so maybe it was prior to or during the time Veronica bought him. I sometimes wish I was better at keeping a diary!. He was a superstar and I have very fond memories of Huttons Ambo Checkerbery. I wonder how Kempley would get on nowadays - I think he would make some look very common. Its great to look back and realise just how smart some of our charges were, I know I feel very lucky to have 'done' some of the horses that I have

I loved dubonnet, I remember being wowed by him working in at I think it was probably the BSPS Champs at Peterborough as he was flying past me! I look at the lorries parked at the shows these days and think back to what we thought was posh in the 80s and laugh!

I remember being a working pupil for Mrs Colledge at the Oakley Stud and was there when Oakley Bubbling Fun was born! We called him 'fun' because he was always made everyone play with him. Oakley Bubbling Spring (Bounce) was the main stallion but we also had Gunthwaite Fleur De Cloche (Cloche) and Harmony Bubbling Champagne (Champers) as young stallions! Bounce was so breathtaking in the flesh as was his mother Bubbles; she was beautiful and so were all of her offspring. I'll pop a pic of Bounce on that Mrs C gave to me and you'll see how much more bone he has than the riding ponies of today! She used to always demand that her lorry was parked by the ringside and sometimes would sit me in the cab with her and we would pick out the winners in the ring. She'd ask me to tell her what I liked not why I liked it and said that some people can pick out a good pony (like she could) just because they liked the overall look of it and those people were the ones with a good 'eye' for a pony! She came from a very 'unhorsey' family so had no background knowledge but that didn't stop her from breeding the very best Riding Ponies that a lot of the SP/SHPs go back to today. Although in those days we didn't have the SHPs, they were either Riding Ponies or Working Hunter Ponies. I remember her taking me to vote for the first time and insisting I voted for Mrs Thatcher and telling me that she was going to be Prime Minister and that she would make history!!

LOL being called young haven't heard that for a while - thanks! Sadly that is a bit before my time I'm the Whittaker brothers generation, I was besotted with Milton, Desert Orchid, Red Rum etc...had posters of them all (alongside Donny Osmond I'm ashamed to say;). Me too, and my friend and I used to argue about whether Donny Osmond or David Cassidy (or The Bay City Rollers) ruled, as we munched polo mints and bits of bran mash!!

Mr ParkerJones, I do remember you! You showed Dubonnet to us and rode him in their indoor area. I can clearly remember you had ridden exactly 1/2 a circle at trot when my step father and I decided there and then we were going to buy him!! He was so beautifully schooled, he was always foot perfect in the ring. A true show hunter pony that showed all the summer and went hunting with us throughout the winter.

Yes I do know Roy, we went over there about 14 years ago when my daughter was tiny (she's 16 now) and we saw Fun! He was beautiful then and I'm sure he still is!

Gail came and went but she wasn't there for the whole of the first season; I trained with a girl called Jayne and another called Jo who had to step-in when Gail decided not to come back! We were probably completely exploited but I learnt so much in those two years and I then went on to be head groom in my next job. My new employers were so impressed that I'd lasted that long with Mrs C. that they gave me the job straight away!! The little Dartmoor teaser was called Zainie and he was lovely! He did eventually get turned out with one of the mares and her foal (can't remember her name but she was one of the 'herb' family) I think she was a little welsh mare. I've still got some photos of the extension that we lived in next to the house and the two dogs 'Trin' and 'Woolly Woolson' her daughter! She worshipped those dogs! Yes, can you ever forget the marmalade sandwiches at 11am?? Did you ever have to eat a partly frozen one that hadn't de-frosted? And do you remember the coffee with dried milk that went with them??

My daughter found my old BSPS Annuals from throughout the 1980's it's so funny to see some of the same names all grown up now back then riding ponies. Most of the ponies you've been talking about are in them, I can't believe how old fashioned we all looked, and it's a little thing but there was virtually no green tweeds, when did that happen, the SHPs were all either navy or blue tweed jackets, hardly any green at all!

Bubbling Fun or bf stood at mrs Runcies Rosslyn stud for a couple of seasons, we had a super foal by him and in fact when it was a yearling Bubbling fun stock won all 3 yearling height classes at the Royal Highland Show - and in those days they were big classes and in fact i think Sweet fun went on to be champ,
does anybody have any photos of Tomatin Forest Wind as i have lost some of mine

Gosh now Im going to sound really old but going back to the piece on Gunnerby Aalborg Elegant I remember the mare , G A Vespa a great 14hh WHP ridden by Nick Smith who went into racing and also Robert & James Moody on Rathkenny Gypsy Moth & Blondel. Nigel Hollings on the wonderful Downland Smuggler. The hugely talented Peta Thorne (what a loss to the horse world) on Wingerworth Sandal & Cochineal. Jamie Osborne who also had a career as a jockey after his WHP days. Also I remember the Cooper girls starting off their riding careers long before Holly of Spring at a small local show. Going onto Towerlands for the team competitions after BSPS Champs and all the wonderful friends we made and kept. Happy Days!

i might be wrong but i think those days ( the Gay Sovereign, Chirk Caviar Tomatin Forest wind, perryditch Wind etc ) the wonderful Gems Signet, Smallland Otto, arden vol au vont of Bennochy, Wendy of Solway i could go on for hours recalling these fab ponies which were RIDDEN and i feelwere the Golden Days of Showing

I agree but that was in the days before everyone used to chase round after qualifiers and many people brought on and made young ponies and took their time and learned so much in the process! I adored Gay Sovereign and I had a pic from a front cover of H&H of Areden vol au vont of Creden in my kitchen for years!

And the beautiful Oakley Bubbling Fun! I was at Sybils too but after Gail had left, Bounce and Fun were there along with another young chesnut colt that broke sybils arm! Did you get through to your extension through the back of the broom closet? (That was so bizarre!) I think Sybil must have been softening in her old age because I was allowed to live in the house, and i got one of Sandbourne royal ensigns first foals when I left. Isnt that Laura Richardson riding Fun?
